Undiscovered systems

Just went through Orion and I stopped at 100's of systems and all were discovered by others. Have we discovered this many? there are like none left in the whole banards loop? lol Seriously though how far do we need to be before we can start finding stuff never scanned or is this the most popular place?

It depends on your path.

If you go the well trodden tourist places via the well trodden tourist route (usually the most direct one) you'll find pretty much every system has already been visited.

Best thing to do is strike out in a diagonal either below or above the Galactic plain. Do that and you'll likely start finding unexplored systems within 500Ly of the bubble.

There is no point heading for a well known destination unless it's just for a sight-seeing tour.

The nebulas are pretty well scouted out. They are hot spots for visitors. If you just want your name on a system, go above or below the plane of the ecliptic and you should find plenty. I generally fly above it and find tons of systems that are untagged and then come across a couple that are, then back to undiscovered.

hi Cmdr,, easy answer here,, tourist spots ,, as in rl,, all well visited,, and dont even think about going there on a bank holiday weekend lol,, if you stay off the beaten tracks,, within only a few 100 ly from home i find that the galaxy then becomes yours ,, good luck and safe journey always ;-)

If im out Exploring & i enter 2 or 3 systems consecutive systems that have all been tagged, then i pick a direction at random & move 100LYs in the direction, then carry on to my destination. I keep doing this through my journey.
Eventually you will hit 'virgin' systems, though as the game progresses this will be further outside civvy space.

As others say, going direct to popular sites will result in very few untagged systems

Been exploring all night, about 11klies out. haven't seen a previously explored system yet tonight. Found my 3rd ELW.

Saying that though,, i just did the Buckyball Run A* ,, and on leaving Sadge A* am finding unvisiteds since only 5ly out ;-)

When i visited the core (which is a popular trek now), i made a direct route back to my designated 'home world' for Exploration.
I never encountered one previously discovered system for 20k LYs, then it was just a 'honk & go'.
It was only until i was around 1500 LYs from my destination that i started coming across completely explored systems

I'm making a long looping run to the core right now, and since I ducked below the galactic plane its almost all unexplored systems, or the occasional tagged star with no tagged planets.

I'm on my way to North American and Pelican nebula areas I encountered a few patches that were discovered but they went slightly off course and pretty much 9 out of 10 systems are new ones. Best not to take the easiest or most obvious route.

Barnard's Loop is close by, looms big in the night sky and is a beckoning lamp for all those explorer moths.

If you're still at Barnie's, go up or down and follow the spiral arm downstream untill you're 1-2 Ly out of the bubble. Soon you'll be finding lots of untagged.

Since FD's claim was 4 quadrillion systems to explore, it would be interesting if FD would release some statistics on how many systems we have discovered and/or tagged. Even if it's only in the 10's of thousands, that would add some scale to our endeavor.

When I went to Barnard's loop and checked out all the other pretty nebulae close by, I gathered data on several undiscovered systems. I was not even looking for those. There are still plenty left around that area.

I have done an excursion, to first discover a system (ANY system) returning to sell that data to indelibly make my mark on the ED galaxy (forever and a day). Beyond that, my view is that any unexplored system is a new system to me, has value in exploration in data, and is still full of objects that can be of more detailed interest than to the first discoverer, who might well have just whipped through en route to Sagg A, collecting only "credits valuable" tags. Detailed scanning ALL objects, laying up in orbit of a waterworld, or imagining what Ammonia based life, could possibly be like, can be just as interesting as hoovering up the galaxy wholesale. One, first discovery tag is (in a way?) enough?

15k out in one of the Neutron fields and I just came across a black hole + Neutron Star system which is undiscovered (along with everything else in my patch)

I recommend blazing your own trail and stop following everyone else to the tourist sites ;)

Lots of undiscovered locations within 1000ly of populated space, you don't need to head too far although it helps.

Go up, go gown, head off in a random direction if you start seeing discovered stars. But most of all...'FLY SAFE COMMANDER'

Scale eh Hmmm,, if a 1000 explorers found 100 systems a day,, would take us 11,000 yrs to get them all,, give or take lol,, based on 400billion stars out there,, lets get busy ;-)

That's the main reason I stopped playing ED because it is a waste of time and efford to keep visiting the same systems again and again IMHO. I have proposed a practical solution in the suggestions thread and Erimus himself commented it was a good idea but as with many other great ideas it will probably go unnoticed :( ...

You don't even have to fly too far to find undiscovered systems, especially if you remember our galaxy has a 3rd dimension. It seems a lot of commanders just fly straight from the bubble to these tourist attractions, forming corridors of well traveled systems. Go a few hundred ly up or down and you'll find plenty of unexplored stuff.

Thank you cmdr's! I think I was was having a moment last night. I had been exploring for hours and lost track of the goal and wanted the undiscovered location. Seemed no matter where I went everything was discovered. Up until last night that didn't matter however i just started fixating on it. Anyways thanks for the suggestions and as always, amazing community

Going to Orion is like going to Paris and wondering why it is so busy at the Eiffel Tower. - everyone goes there.

Go somewhere out of the way, that 'looks' boring and you will find lots of fun things.

Want heaps of undiscovered Neutron Stars? Coordinates -1400, -1100, 13000 and head towards the Core. It might take you a day or two to get there in a tricked out Asp, but you'll find lots of unexplored systems.

I'm doing my exploring in an Orca, with a jump range of 15 Ly. I get heaps of undiscovered systems, even close to the Bubble that people have jumped over in their much longer-range ships.
