Unexpected encounter whilst traveling; What the hell is this thing?!

Just as I exited an Orbis Starport, something unusual came up on my radar, so curiosity struck me and I decided to cancel my frame-shift charge and flew to it, only to see this:

Unfortunately I couldn't down-size the image, but, what really is this thing? It makes a very unique and strange sound, and it's something iv'e never seen before. It's the size of a canister and it's scoopable. Thargoids?

What spaceport, and did you scoop it up? If so, let Arcanon or one of the others in the Soontil megathread know-how the thing will degrade your systems over time, but there are lots of folks who are probably quite eager to get their hands on one.

sell it (...)

Someone offered tons of Palladium for one. Keep it or sell it to the artefact hunters :D (if it hasn't degraded yet).

Could this be the beginning - more sightings as Michael said?
.
Man, can't wait to see a Thargoid ship - ahhh the CPC and Amiga times

In addition to that being worth approximately 5.4 Eagles, it's unbelievably rare and there are a huge amount of players looking to get their hands on one. You discovering it by chance outside of a starport is insane.

if you can tell me where you are, I'd be happy to relieve you of that worrysome junk, even if it takes a bit of force... :)

Haha...this just made the game a bit more dangerous for OP.
I can see it now...pirates and bounty hunters being paid a fee to hunt this fella down and steal his findings....

OP...my suggestion is to sell it now before that target on you gets bigger and someone takes it by force.

What happens if you try and destroy one of these artefacts anyway? Several have been found, so aiming a large beam laser at it (all in the cause of scientific investigation, of course) would be no real loss and might even be an interesting experiment...
