Unexpected Encounter...

I'm currently ~1.4K LY outside the bubble...

I hit another generic M class system and dutifully began scanning the usual assortment of Icy planets, rocky planets etc....when I noticed a weak signal source on my scanner. I immediately plotted an intercept course and ran it down.

I jumped out of Super Cruise to find....

an NPC Sidewinder. I have no idea whatsoever how it got this far out...and what it is doing. All attempts at communication failed so I left.

Odd.

Commander Himilco, out.

Yeah, it does look like FD extended the range of encounters (maybe they're on a curve, now) so that occasionally you encounter things much farther out. I found a bunch of cannisters of waste way out past 750ly.

I figure this is good; it's part of achieving a playable balance. There was a time when there were tons of NPCs that would stupidly attack everything. Then, there were no NPCs. Now, it seems like a bit of NPC to spice up our lives; I like it!

I found a canister of rebel transmissions out by Barnard's Loop today. I thought, how did it get there and where was it being taken? It would've been so much cooler if it was weird alien stuff.

Running into the instancing again. FD don't have any code to detect where you are, they just go "are you x ly from civvy space" if true - spawn random encounter containing anything you would find in 1ly of Sol never mind 1000 ly away from it. Its things like this that I am frankly surprised are still not addressed. Maybe a little thing but its an immersion breaker. I really really hate instancing in games.
