Unexpected slf crew bonus :)

Maybe it's just me :) but I've always felt a little lonely out there in space.
I wasn't all that thrilled about ship launched fighters, cool I thought, probably try it a few times and then get bored.

But blimey, I've got oddly attached to my new crew member. Even though I can't actually see or communicate with them, it's oddly more fun just knowing they're on board. I send her out scouting every so often if I'm scanning a system or trawling over a planet, she's been really good in res sites and wiping out interdictions, she's even come along on passenger missions just in case of trouble.
I don't even mind that I've paid her over ten million so far, they've earned it.
One day they'll die when I get over confident in a fight or mess up a neutron star but until then I'm ranking her up and suddenly my firefly/killjoy experience suddenly feels a little closer to reality. Going to hire another cheap one as backup, hopefully one that makes less sarcastic comments when I shoot them by accident.

And the NPC crew also don't have to meet an eventual bad end.

After they've earned a good chunk of cash from working for you, let them go. Maybe they'll buy an Anaconda and set off on their own adventure.

Yeah, I'm hoping that they give the crew more dialogue and personality. It certainly does liven up the game.

So far, I've only hired one Mostly Harmless pilot and leveled her up to Master and hang out at CNB's... plenty of action.

The major downside being that her pay rate is a flat percentage of everything you earn. Per crew. Until they resolve that, I fear most will be fired as soon as they get a promotion haha.

Isla Atkins

Me and Isla often sit and chat at the station, she's a really good listerner :)
Hired her as Novice now she's an Expert (6% profit share). Havana is her backup, and will slowly rank her up too, so the inevitable loss won't feel so bad.

I don't mind paying them, I'm not credit farming and even if it hits 15% then it's not that much difference to me on a passenger mission for 5 million or so, and she does a fair job in a res, so probably made her own share of the last couple of million I got there, if she haggles for 20% though then she's out the airlock ;)

Heck I fire them as soon as I return from whatever I brought them along for. Which is hardly ever. I think the fighters are fun, but not very useful, and the crew cost too much.

Plus if you're trading they take their percentage of the sale price, not the profits. You can actually lose money trading with NPC crew on your roster.

On the other hand, you can take one to a RES site, kill stuff, and fire them before turning in the bounties. They take no cut at all then.

It's all very badly thought out in my opinion.

My first crew member had a non-derpy avatar, was a former Type 9 pilot (She was called Mabel!), and apparently killed a bunch of people in some pirate war thing.

Never firing this guy 'til I blow up and he dies.

Need to be cheaper for me to use unfortunately. Those millions didn't come by squandering them away ;-)

They ARE good. They WILL work well, but just too pricey.

At least get your numbers straight before you post nonsense like this. I just tested your theory.

Sold commodities for 1,882,000 credits with a 217,500 cr profit. Net credit to my balance was 1,855,900 cr, 26,100 cr less than the gross profit. That works out exactly to the 12% profit share that my crew member is supposed to receive.

TL;DR: It is actually 12% off profits, not sales.

You are entitled to your opinion, whether based on correct facts or not. However, only misers would grudge their crew the profit share they receive for their dangerous work!

Well I find they're worth the cost.
Maybe they'll end up forming a union and refuse to work for people that sack them before paying them ;)
