People mental models apparently don't seam to match up to modern day realities of releasing Multplayers games.
Take TF2, simple team death-match/capture the flag.
It launched with 4 maps.
look at it today - a radically different, with multiple patches, upgrades, expansion, new content.
Elite dangerous effectively launched a revamped version of the BBC micro Elite but with added graphics.
Some minor micro-management and meta games added it.
But effectively, if you are a looking for a succefull Elite Remake -
Frontier just did so. (aside from Jumping Galaxy).
Are there section of the game cordoned off - yes (just like WOW and other MMO'S / multiplayer games like Destiny)
Are planned features not implemented (just like WOW and other MMO'S / multiplayer games like Destiny)
Are they features from Elite II from the Early 90's that has not been implemented that we've HEARD Braben talking about including at some point - Yes, we can rattle of a number.
If Braben and team succesfully inclluded them before, do we have *ANY* doubt they can be included in todays game???
of course not.
Are people eager (read impatient) to get those features - yes.
Was the game rushed out without community goals and wings to hit the christmas market for maximum profit to keep the company/game going, yes.....but you got to draw a line somewhere. I don't see anyone citing the lack of a "mac" client being the line for which the game is considered complete.
And introducing each feature step-by-step (just like with the beta) to allow the team to address individual issues with each increment/update of the game.
instead of 20 features all messing up at the same time.
Did anyone else have docking issues at Yembo, when a ridiculous amount of PVP traffic turned up and people trying to dock at the same station. I had a stable - steady game, with no waiting time for docking - a far cry from complaints 8 weeks back.
Elite Dangerous was kickstarted, and advertised and talked openly about "future expansions" and continual updates.
So people have NO excuse, stating the game is unfinished or incomplete because it was known "future expansions and updates" were on the cards.
Just deal with it.
