Seeing musk deer, tufted deer and muntjac love has me wondering: which fanged deer do you all prefer?

Could be from realism aspect or looks. Cause realism in zoo collections muntjacs are more popular, but I like tufted and musk deer looks wise more. Ideally I would like the muntjac for its own merits and weirdness (with scent glands and such) AND a tufted or musk deer alongside them

Any of the three is better than is better than none, but musk deer won't have the interspecies enrichment I want. 'Muntjac' is fun to say, I've seen them most often in zoos, and I think they seem the most unique. I want a muntjac, and I don't care too much about the other two. I hope people can be content with mods for the tufted and musk deer so more DLC slots can go towards monkeys, birds, and other animals I care about more.

Reeves muntjac for me aswell. Its by far the most versatile of the bunch, not only because its the most common in zoos but also because it lives in both temperate and tropical forests so there are alot more opportunities to incorporate it into builds

You’re on the wrong thread if you’re looking for people that are content with “just mods” of the other two 😂😂 jkjk

Haha, true. While the muntjac is the main one I want, a tufted deer could function as a less than ideal substitute. I don't see much need for both, and one is way more popular and common in zoos than the oddball of the clade. The musk deer would be ok because it's unique and kind of cool, but it's not a priority for me at all if support is limited.

Definitely tufted deer for me.
It has its really Unique looks and coloration, it’s a better fit to mix with red panda and this great hairdo that I really like.

Why is there such an obsession with what's more popular in zoos?
Honestly, no one I’ve talked to even cares about that anymore. It’s kind of ridiculous 🤷🏽‍♂️

Because i like building realistic zoos, its my way of creating a challenge and restrictions to play around for a game that otherwise doesnt have them.
So i will, with all other factors aside, always prefer the common zoo animal over the rare/abscent one because i will get more milage out of it in different projects

I completely understand where you're coming from, but this argument doesn't really resonate with me. I'm genuinely thrilled that we've been getting so many rare and obscure species, and I’d love to see even more.

For example, when I visit real zoos, I’m far more excited to spot a tufted deer—since they’re much rarer in captivity—than a muntjac, which is pretty common. The uniqueness makes it that much more exciting. At least for me.

Same for me, the aye aye, pangolin and bear cuscus were absolute highlights for me on my trip to berlin and leipzig, but i dont really have much desire for the two to get in the game.

Idk for me there isnt nessecarily a correlation between real life and in game really. What animals i really want to see added arent necessary what i love most to see in real zoos or even animals i would rank particularly high when it comes to listing my favorite animals.
And likewise some of my favorite animals irl i have next to no desire for them to get added to the game, heck for my favorite animal, the rock monitor, i actively dont want them get added.

I respect that, but it doesn't mean everyone has to follow the specific restrictions you impose on yourself or that the game development should be based on it. I'm currently working on a reptile based park, but I certainly don't want Frontier to suddenly stop adding mammals to the game just so I would have more material to work with.

Didnt say that tho. Just wanted to clarify why i personally prefer common zoo animals over rare/abscent ones

Monkeys and birds don't have enough basic, realistic rep, so I think going with those that are both popular and at least somewhat common in zoos would appeal to more people.

Outside of them, it generally doesn't matter too much, but a few absences (serval, coati, kudu, ABB for NA, etc.) are obvious. For the muntjacs, they are also considerably more popular here and somewhat notable as an invasive species. Also, tufted deer are an oddball sibling of the muntjac clade. I would prioritize one of the basic ones first, but the tufted deer is the very next one I would choose if we were to get a second deer of that sub-clade within Old World deer.
