yes! i'm currently "trying" to do one "kill 5 pirates" mission in a system that's pretty empty. there isn't even a NAV beacon that would makes thing easier. nope, there's nothing. i've not seen a single ship out there. so, what are you supposed to do? of course, "unidentified signal sources".
i'm flying and flying and flying... nothing. do i have to fly at a specific speed to make them generate now? i don't know.
ah, there's a weak signal source. fly towards, keep flying, just a little bit more... enter. three canisters of bauxite. ok, next...
repeat the procedure. a couple of canister with prototype tech that i scoop in the hopes that there will be a pirate ambush. didn't happen. next please.
repeat the procedure. ah, finally three out of five pirates. next...
repeat the procedure. couple of canister of chemical waste. when this happens, and it happens every time, i honestly think the game screws with me. not in the mood for screwing. quit the game.
yet another "kill pirates" mission that i abort.
#end of rant
obviously, these things have to get improved. we now have three tiers of signal sources, the large ones are supposed for wings. so, solo players have a stunning two different signal sources. there need to be more than this. i need to be able to tell where to find actual ships and where to find canisters.
another thing is their random generation. you, as the player, just know that there aren't any unidentified signals. it's the game that generates that stuff for you. it's not immersive at all. what i like to suggest is to give the player a signal source scanner and remove the automatic generation completely. the scanner is supposed to fit into an internal compartment. it's very similar to the discovery scanner. but instead of scanning planets, you scan empty space for signal sources. you can have different tiers of scanners that discover different kinds of signal sources. this way, the mechanic is more directed and less random. so, instead of flying aimless through space, you use the scanner and generate signal sources on your own. on demand, if you will. don't have some dices roll in the background and hope for your lucky number, because it sucks.
so, yea. that's it. i hope someone reads and considers some of this. to sum things up: unidentified signal sources suck.
