Hardware & Technical Uninstall/Reinstall Lose Commander Data?

If I uninstall and then reinstall the game will I lose my Commander data? If so is there a particular data file I should keep safe to replant after the installation?

I recently cloned the C: partition from my HDD over to a new SSD using Macrium Reflect and everything went fine. Then I cleaned up the HDD partitions with Mini Tool. Boot times are now insignificant as expected and Win 7 and all the other programs run beautifully.

I am however having a number of Elite crashes since the changeover, even while just sitting on the pad or tucked away in a hanger doing nothing. I am entertaining the idea that just maybe a game file got corrupted and is causing the issue so I am considering an uninstall/reinstall of Elite.

I am open to suggestions on other possible causes of the crashes too. I am pretty tech savy having dabbled with computers since the '80's but I am by no means a formally educated professional. I am always willing to learn new tricks so feel free to educate me on relevant stuff here.

Thanks in advance.

No, it's all stored server-side, it will be picked up from your e-mail account when you re-install and reauthenticate.

You may want to backup your keybindings.

I lost the will to play for a bit after a reformat and losing my bindings - even with my smug little backup batch file - that of course backed up to the completely wrong place :(

Now that is something I hadn't thought of. Good call!

While my keyboard commands would pretty simple to fix it did take me some time to get the controls for the SRV and Camera Suite set up the way I like them. I will for sure look into that.

Assuming you are on PC, back up this location

Users/%yourusername%/AppData/Local/Frontier Developments/Elite Dangerous/Options

Once you reinstall, simply copy it over the fresh install. That will save any control and graphics settings you have. :)

Also, your visited/unvisited star systems are stored locally, so you'll lose that filtered information on the galaxy map. Not a big deal, but you can copy the file or export/import it I think if you prefer the in-game data to using external sites.

Commander journal is in "%USERPROFILE%\Saved Games", you may want to save those as well.

You can, by the way, just use options/validate game files in the launcher to give your installation a good scrubbing, no reinstall required.

That is information I have not utilized yet in any form but keeping it could prove useful in the future. Another good idea.

A good scrubbing? How cool is that? I will give that a try before I go replacing a 19GB folder on a less than speedy internet connection (6Mbps max).

Lots of good info that I hadn't thought of. Thanks Commanders!

+Rep to you all.
