Had a delivery mission with unique goods and a fine for failure (despite being a common item available at most commodity markets). Got killed. Mission still around, any reason to not just discard it?
After resurrection, kept getting dogged in multiple systems by the same guy, noticed one of the times that he was tagged with "MISSION TARGET", had hope that maybe if it was my attacker and I killed him, I could recover my unique goods that he stole (presumably, after killing me). eventually killed him, but only got some materials and a bunch of the same (different) item, all tagged "illegal salvage", and 3 fed enforcers just waiting for me to grab the salvage. sigh, oh well.
Also, apparently at some point, the mission was updated (found in my mailbox) with a bonus if you kill these guys along the way; so I guess that's what the mission target was referring to. (and it was supposed to be a simple delivery mission of a number of tons of a relatively common item).
Alas, I was/am hoping there is some way of recovering lost unique goods (like finding a USS in the area where you were killed, and it turning out to be your own (not illegal since its mine) salvage). My old method of just buying replacements doesn't work anymore (I certainly hope there is more to motivating this unique mechanic than just preventing people from doing that).
Can I still get my bonus for killing the mission target, even though I can't complete the delivery part of the mission? (Haven't logged back in yet to try, and the timer might be expired by now anyway, so hoping someone knows the answer).
p.s. I am aware the mission text tends to state unique goods cannot be replaced if lost, but it really seems like there should be some way to make good, somehow. (and going and finding the same goods would not be replacing them, but recovering them, though at the moment I don't remember the exact wording of the text).
