Universal cartographics, no data?

Hi all !

I just got back "home" to the populated area of the game, after a week long journey.

Ive been to a few nebulas:

1., North American /Pelican
2., Sadr
3., Elephants Trunk
4., Cave
5., NGC 7822 (beneath it) and finally to the

Hearth and Soul nebula which i didnt reach, been half the way there already.
Duo to the lack of fuel, i blew up my ship. (Was planning to do that at the hearth and soul nebulas)..

Now iam sitting in a federation station, trying to sell all the data which i collected over weeks of exploration. But only a few system data is showing up which i can sell.

Should i go to another station or an independent one, or is all the data now lost?

Thanks for the information!
Greetings!

You lost your data when you asploded yourself.

Oh, and nice meeting you, CMDR o7

Sorry to say yes, exploration data is the same as the bounties, combat bonds and merits they are bound to you.

You can change ship/outfitting, fly around etc but if you die they all disappear.

Oh my god.... i can't believe you did that. I really feel for you.

If you had run out of fuel you could have ask the Fuel Rats to rescue you... but being so far away, i shudder to think what they would charge.

I'm sorry you've learnt this lesson the hard way, but visiting systems isn't enough. You have to make it back home in one piece to sell the data. Getting blown up or self-destructing lose you all your accumulated data.

My suggestion would be to go retrace your steps to Sadr, North America and Pelican Nebulae, THEN COME BACK. Sell your data. Then head out to NGC7822 and Heart & Soul Nebulae for a second leg. That way you get some payment for your travels.

Not much, I would probably have gone for free - half way to Soul Nebula is only 3 kylies or so.

Yeah once I head out again I plan on being available for service for free. Rescue distance limit will likely only be limited by my and the rescuee's free time. It'll be nice going out on a destination-free exploration mission, so meandering around or backtracking for someone will never be a hassle.

Ouch. That is painful and what a lesson to learn.

3KLY is not too far I would've run that journey to get to you - the payments for the honk and scoop getting to you would give me a profit; I'd not worry about paying for the fuel limpets, and it wouldn't be an Anaconda turning up....

Remember everyone - there are no USB drives in the 32nd Century.

Id have gone happily, would have given me an excuse to get back out in the black again.

Wow, so sorry Commander. Exploration data is lost upon ship destruction. Oh, and welcome home?

Gives you a good reason to go out again, and reach the Heart and Soul Nebula to do figure 8's. Indeed have to watch out for the Brown Dwarf field around there! Avoid it, or plan short routes always ending up at a scoopable star.

Thanks,

I deep-scanned every single main star i jumped too (and very often other stars in the system too + a lot of systems completely).

Too bad that all the data is lost now. :(
Next time ill make sure to get back in one piece.

Nevermind, it was fun + i made a few beautiful screenshots of the nebulas ive been to. :)

Iam getting a better ship setup now for my cobra-mk3, then ill head out there, to explore again.

I found your OP to be a little heartbreaking. Your undaunted follow up made me smile.
