Greetings Commanders,
Some of you may have seen the notice on the Groups thread about "The Canonn".
I wanted to see (and advertise to as many as possible whilst out of character) and discuss Gaming the Game to achieve our group goals outside the scope of factions.
This may become more important in the years to come when FDev introduce mysteries and try to steer things in a direction that the player base may not wish to take. We also don't want to make it easy for FDev to control "our game". Or at least not put up a struggle.
So I have created "The Canonn" to protest for the "scientists in their search for the truth".
I see this game as having a number of influence levers. The "In game" factional work being the most obvious and the new power play upgrade being another. However, what has become apparent is the influence the community has on Galnet. We can request posts be made there for a start. Further, this is a test of my suspicion that FDev and most especially Michael Brookes are acting, or see themselves, as "Game Master", in almost the old classical Pen and Paper RPG games manner.
If my theory is correct, then we are in a position to influence much more than Factions with our in game support. We can be much more creative. And this will mean that FDev will need to step up and think about Role playing responses in game more.
So, If Galnet really is a Human Space spanning news service, then the BILLIONS of virtual voting citizens will be reading it. IF this is correct then the Federation can be exposed to a virtual voter consensus as they have a virtual elected President. If we apply pressure/fear to those voters then we have a new "influence lever". If DFev are being GMs then they will have to consider how to react to any "in game" public reaction to serious, sustained protests that might have and effect not heir daily lives. Exactly as we do in the modern democratic world most of us live in. Influence public opinion and the politicians follow.
The concern the voters of the federation should have are two fold in relation to the Unknown Artefact; Is it dangerous? and if so who is to be trusted with it?
Of course if I am wrong then FDev will just ignore any in game "protest", and that will lessen the immersion, realism, and creative fun we can have mentally jostling with Michael and his team.
Would love to hear your thoughts on this.
Huros
