Unknown Permit

Hello commanders

I was exploring towards orion last night then hit a field of stars where i couldnt plot a route. No matter which star i select in that direction turned out the same.. never encountered this before

Polaris has been permit locked since before I started playing four years ago. Those chunks of Col 70 that the OP mentioned have been locked for what, three years now? I do find myself wondering at what point the supposed 'future content' in those areas may become 'actual content'.
We'll find out in 2035...wait no we won't because that'll be delayed too

I'm beginning to wonder if the mystery is the content...

I was beginning to think that too...!

There is probably nothing in there, it just has the allure of the unknown attached to it, and hence speculation and imagination can run rife, anticipating some bright sunlit uplands which don’t actually exist :D

The COL-Sector IS populated and the inhabitants definetly don't like "guests". The Canonn-Group learned it "the hard way". Always remember the "Gnosis". ;)

Oh I'm absolutely certain there's nothing in there now, it wouldn't make any sense to add content into those areas precisely because nobody can see it. I was expecting the Col 70 area to be unlocked (with the afore-mentioned content included) way before now though, probably part of some Thargoid-related shenanigans.

Well, I have the suspicion, that FDev will "open" the COL-Sector as some kind of 'Goid-Haven with "New Era". Some kind of a big showdown, now that humanity settled in "Witch Head". It's right in front of the "flowers" very faces. Would fit well into the fluff.

The COL-Sector IS populated and the inhabitants definitely don't like "guests". The Canonn-Group learned it "the hard way". Always remember the "Gnosis". ;)
The GNOSIS? I remember that fiasco, I was there. In fact, it seems that was the beginning of the current glitch parade players are experiencing.

There's a dedicated permits thread that lists obtaining, faction needed and benefits elsewhere in the forums. As well as the permit locked regions and systems we currently have no means of access to.

For example, in the deep black, bout 3/4 the way to Colonia there's a system with a permit named "Security". There's a second system just North of Sag A needing the same permit.

FIASCO is the right word, my (now mothballed) playergroup, Cavaliers Le Chardon, had been in discussions with Frontier and Canonn, my group were going to provide combat escort for canonn scientist explorer types. We dumped hundreds of millions of credits into transferring modules to gnosis to allow us to fly anti-gank patrols to protect the scientists and have AX loadouts on tap incase we stirred up a thargoids nest. During those discussions we were lead to believe that there would be a decal, cannon and my group collaborated on the graphics design of it, the result was essentially a decal resembling my avatar, but with the crest on the shield being canonn's logo rather than empire heraldry.

There's still the old DB Video about Permits :

Keep in mind : this is from 2012 (!)

Now think about for how long many of the Permit Areas/Remote Systems have already been locked. That's about 5 years for most of them I think.
"Future Content" was the official reasoning, yet after so many years the Future has become the Present and Past already. And still nothing.

The term "move along, nothing to see here" comes to mind. Nothing there.
(and please do note his body language when he starts talking about Players mapping those locked cut-outs. "Ironically, that's all part of the excitement". Well, not so exciting after all, rather the polar opposite. "Reserved for Future Content" there can safely be regarded "Future lack of Content". At this pace, the project will have long ended & shelved before any of that supposed content has materialized.)

Its only use is to hype Players/Explorers by making them believe those areas would be "special" in any way. They simply aren't, a characteristic they share with most of earnable System Permit Unlocks.

I recently went to Orion to take pretty pictures of the Horsehead Nebula. If anyone want to go there from the Bub, plot a route for Rigel. Rigel in itself is a beautiful system, and from Rigel you can access Orion. There are still permit locked systems though. It's the same when traveling from the Crab Nebula back to the Bub. Then you need to plot a route going around Orion manually. Otherwise the route plotting fails.

Why? That question has also puzzled me, but in the case of the Horsehead Nebula the explanation might be as simple as it only looks good from a certain angle. The devs might have locked systems that gave a less spectacular view of the CGI.
