Unlocking and Testing Pack Hounds (video)

When you said drop into a nav beacon to check them out I wasn't expecting you to actually shoot the nav beacon! Made for some very nice visuals.

How useful are these Packed Hounds in an actual combat? Sorry I couldn’t view the video at work.

Packhounds are pretty good at damaging and destroying surface modules like chaff launchers, weapons and engines if you have the appropriate subsystem targetted. They aren't so good at causing outright hull damage.

Although its fun to toast your GPU doing so, Packhounds quite often blow each others Pack micro missiles up with splash damage. Past one or two hardpoints having them you most likely waste missiles as they all go focus on one spot, explode and detonate some missiles arriving later.

They are rather useless until shields drop, but I always have 1 rack with drag munitions and that's always useful.

After years of playing I finally decided to go for the Pack Hounds after seeing this video. A bit miss-leading. I just got them, and added 4 to my Cutter. Did more heat damage to myself than to the target. What is the point of creating a weapon with so much heat that it is essentially useless? I am reminded of the Shotgun Midgets in Borderlands. You know, they shoot at you and fall on their butt. Except here we are the shotgun midgets.

Are any of the Powerplay modules worth the wait or do they all pretty much suck?

You want serious heat try 7x imperial hammers.
0-300+ degrees in a matter of seconds :ROFLMAO:

For goofing around they are pretty cool, for actual PVE combat scenarios they are pretty much same trash as regular missiles are. I mean if you have some engineered guns, you will take out any target far quicker than you can blow up several modules individually, and main question is: why would you need to with current TTK going through the roof? Even then, during combat, any unshielded NPC takes pretty heavy damage to several different modules even if you just shoot hull with lasers/MCs, you name it.

Against human is completely useless as well. In real PVP, there are 1001 ways to avoid even getting a lock. Might work with piracy, well... if target started playing yesterday and runs D class ship or something, or maybe you both into roleplaying. ;)

Seriously though, explosive damage should absolutely shred hull to pieces, but balance, common sense and FDev don't go too well hand in hand...

Packhounds in pairs deals with heat.. short bursts.
Use em like this once shields are down with drag experimental and they are very effective. Running a cool thermally vented beamset helps.
Also a cool build designed ship a bonus.

In this video I try out the Pack Hound Missile Racks. One of the most fun weapons in the game. They are a Power Play item specific to Li Yong-Rui. I also cover how to unlock them.

They’re great. I put two rapid fire packhounds on trade ships and let several volleys fly when im interdicted. Causes enough confusion for me to pop a heatsink and jump out.
