Engineers Unlocking lower level blueprints to unlock higher grade

So in order to increase FSD range to the max I need to unlock shielded FSD and faster boot sequence? Really?

Am I doing it wrong? That just appears ridiculous. I was happy to have grinded up what I need for the mods I want, but I gotta unlock everything else first? Really?

I'm not trolling, please enlighten me!

Uh, nope. You don't need to unlock faster boot sequence in order to unlock increased range. Doing mods increases your rep with the engineer, and your engineer rep determines what rank you can get of all mods they offer.

But how come that Felicity Farseer is at level 4, I got all materials for range increase 2, but it is greyed out??

I feel very stupid, thanks for your help.

Nope, that's not how it works. You have to get the module up to around 80% of the maximum of each grade to unlock the next grade. Provided your engy rank is also high enough, which shouldn't be an issue because 3 upgrades of grade N will get you to engy rank N+1. Unless you are doing remote engineering, which doesn't improve engy rank.

What do you mean by get it to 80 %? Was the level 1 upgrade not good enough and I gotta redo level 1 until it is true level 1..?

My engineer rank is at 4. Sold exploration data for millions, but I'm stuck with a lvl 1 FSD.

Never did remote engineering. Only got one ship to tune.

Each attempt only improves it by a random amount of the grade's potential. At Level 4 with the engineer you might not to do a G1 in one roll. You can see an arc over the stat that is improved. You should even see it climb when you hit the button.

Each module has to be upgraded to each level before it can be upgraded to the next level. Level one sometimes only needs one roll, but after that it may require more rolls to open the next level for that module.

You can't just take a clean module and start upgrading it to level 5

You also can't apply any experimental effects remotely - must be done at the engineer's base.
