Unpopular opinion, the new DLC sucks

I bought the game when it was on sale on Xbox, and I'm glad I did. I feel like there's way too many Coleosaurus in game, and rather than focus on the other 150 million years of Dinos instead of giving us, we get, yet another, knock off Tyrannosaurs. Honestly, after 2 weeks with the game I'm bored. We have all the options we need to customize our parks, but we get clones of the same 2 dino species repeatedly and it sucks. Frontier could do way more than this DLC 🤷🏼🥱

The only animal that is even remotely similar to any of the existing ones is Sinosauropteryx. It's a close relative of Comsognathus. But this design is also completely different because it's fully feathered.
Yutyrannus is a much more basal tyrannosauroid than examples like Tyrannosaurus and Albertosaurus. The closest relative in the game is Proceratosaurus. Which looks nothing like it.
Jeholopterus is the first anurognathid in the game.
And I don't think I need to say why Deinocheirus is completely unique and nothing like any other dinosaur known.

But of course you're free to not like certain designs.

You're free to like or not like the dinosaur designs. Personally, I love them. I also agree with you that I'd like to see other species from the Triassic and the Jurassic. That being said, it's objectively false to say these dinosaurs are "clones" to current species we have in the game.

You could put a feather skin pack out for Albertosaurus and visually have a Yutyrannus. Who cares if it's basal? It's still a 6th Tyrannosaurid. That means there are more Tyrannosaurids in game than there are Carnivores in both the Jurassic and Triassic combined. It's not that I don't like the looks, it's that they wasted a DLC on something that could have been accomplished with skin packs and used the DLC for other Dinos that have virtually no representation in game.

You could put feathers on the Albertosaurus and have exactly what you get with the Yuty 🤷🏼

It's not a Tyrannosaurid. It's a Tyrannosauroid. Much larger group.
If you think it looks too much like a Tyrannosaurid like Albertosaurus then you might as well say most theropods look the same. Yutyrannus has a much taller front of the snout with a more prominent nasal. It's much less wide in the face as well and the lacrimal crests are a completely different shape.
And unlike more derived tyrannosaurids, it has 3 fingers on each hand.
It's fine to not like it. But it does not look the same as Albertosaurus.

And Yutyrannus has been a popular dinosaur on many people's wish lists for a long time now. Same with Deinocheirus.

Agreed.
As long as the Yutyrannus gets new animations and isn't just a copy/paste version of an existing animal, i'm personally satisfied 😅
So am I.

Oh, my bad 🙄 so do you have a point here, or are you looking to split hairs? Because 6 members of "Tyrannosauroid" is still too many which is the point I'm making. Guess how many non-Coelurosauria we have? Go ahead, guess then come back and continue to act like I have no point here.

Also, isn't the coelurosaurian branch bigger? Like, a lot bigger?
Yeah there's the tyrannosauroids and tyrannosaurs, dromaeosaurs, troodontids, alvarezsaurs, compsognathids, therizinosaurs, ornithomimosaurs, oviraptorosaurs, megaraptorans, scansoriopterygids, and the birds as the major groups. So, it can't be helped because coelurosauria is a huge clade of theropods compared to the rest, the second biggest clade would be carnosauria, which only has basal carnosaurs like Monolophosaurus, Altispinax and the megalosaurs and spinosaurs then the derived carnosaurs being the piatnitzkysaurs, metriacanthosaurs, allosaurs, neovenatorids and carcharodontosaurs.

The DLC and free update will definetly be great additions to the game. The species are completely different from species in the game. The models have progressed a great deal. And the free update will bring needed attractions asked for since the original game. Being able to put different tree types outside their biomes. Much larger maps in sandbox. All and all I think this is one of the better dinosaur packs, and one of the best free updates.

Don't agree 100% but they for some reason gave us an insect feeder that can only be used by ONE animal...so you may be on to something...

I can't imagine Frontier putting thought and time for just one species. I'm thinking future species added may have that diet, or in an update some existing species may have that diet added.

I think the new species look good, I think the free update more than makes up for the disappointment of the dlc you have.

I would have liked to see some new stuff for the aquatic species. We really need different marine biomes to play with, much larger decorations/terrain option for aquatics. One day getting some type of land platform attachment or island or floats to the pools so you can add crocodiles or land interactions would be the best. Maybe one day... but the larger maps alone with the free update is making me happy.

As long as we don't get a je3 announcement hopefully we can continue to expect more stuff. Im very happy they're stil working on this game.

I'm thinking that as well. It seems odd that none of the existing animals were changed. Perhaps a hint that Mononykus cold be added in the future maybe?
