PvP Unprovoked attack on me at Jameson Memorial

Today I tried Open Play to see what will happen at Jameson Memorial and as I expected I got attacked by some idiot who just rammed me in my Cobra Mk III with his God rolled FDL. He was ignorant and never responded to my messages. So I reported him. Such idiots spoil Open Play for everyone and then they whine and bleat like spoiled brats why nobody wants to play in Open anymore. Stupid beyond belief.

I would like to see a final word once and for all from FDev on this point. There are so many posts about this, it seems like it needs to be addressed.

Many people point to the Elite Sales page that the game is intended to let them kill other commanders and "its part of the game".
I disagree with this interpretation.

To me it reads "hunt other commanders" which implies the Bounty Hunting mechanic which is a perfectly acceptable way of killing criminal commanders.

If this is meant to imply Bounty Hunting then killing innocent commanders just trying to enjoy their game is simply one persons enjoyment at the expense of another's and not design intent.

@FDev - please can you comment on this once and for all? Is player killing (without reason) intended game play or an unfortunate consequence of the system?

You need to read your post again and maybe then you'll see more clearly who is "whining, bleating and stupid beyond belief."

So someone who files a grievance and
posts on the forums because they were killed sensibly shouldn't? Hmm.

I fail to see your logic

I got rear-ended by a driver, admitted at the scene it was her fault, agreed to pay. Then I get a letter saying i reversed into her and she is suing!

2 years later and the threat of court, she admits it was her fault and paid for damages !

Sadly waits for first "Git Gud" comment, then a comment about "Salt", then a comment about how it's all the OP's fault, and how his setup was wrong, and that it's all part of the game, and that the game allows this and even encourages it...........

Happened to me recently and I am afraid on this section of the forum all you will generally get is snide remarks and little children claiming its their right to spoil your day.

Sad reality of Open

Yeah, you might get some of those comments. They're about as par for the course as the unhelpful Mobius salesmen comments from the "other side".

What you will generally get over in this section however is a refreshing lack of unproductive molly coddling and pity parades. The OP will be told to dust themselves off, learn from this experience and be more prepared next time. Once engineered with G5 Dirty drives a Cobra can outrun any FDL in known existence. With a little bit of piloting skill the Cobra should also not be getting rammed to death as it has a very flat profile and is fast enough to get away from being cornered in a love sandwich between 2 ships.

Never mind, most people in here won't ever realize that you try to say: "Be a bit less psycho and open will be full of people again"...

The OP was a fail for the use of overtly negative, self pitying language that assumed he was above reproach while the person who put him down was an "idiot" along with several other pejoratives.

The second I see someone calling someone else a bunch of names for playing the game in a manner that is 100% Fdev approved but they personally don't like, my sympathy and desire to teach goes right out the window.

Playing in Open is still a game - not real life. Maybe you should have joined in by coming out of the station in an unshielded Sidewinder, then jumped in his way every time he tried to ram someone, or rammed him every time he went over the speed limit, then suicide yourself into the side of the station, which would have given him a rebuy of around 7 million compared with your 500cr. These things are opportunities to have fun, not go and sulk.

They've already addressed this. It's 100% legitimate and are not willing to make it against the rules. For a start the game cannot make determinations between motivated and unmotivated kills; if someone wants to blaze their trail as a Fed hating Imperial, or someone that hunts bounties from players in systems they aren't wanted, it's their right. Secondly even if they wanted to prevent it, they've expressed knowledge that there's no way of achieving it that doesn't hurt game continuity and mechanics.

And finally...blaze your own trail. Players have as much right to do this and enjoy it as you do to influence the BGS from the shadows.

"...or just hunt other CMDRs"

There are two other game modes constructed for players that don't like the "cutthroat galaxy" FD intended ED to be.

Notably going to Open as an "experiment" with Jameson as your first stop is paramount to kicking the hornet's nest while yodeling anti-insect sentiment, hair slathered in honey. One wonders whether OP was on a legit experiment or looking for ammunition for this thread.

Never gonna happen with the way this game is run. Asking that all the dicкs of the Universe just stop being dicкs is a nice sentiment but it won't change anything. The change will come from knowing how not to fall prey to ish behaviour.

You should probably report yourself instead.

It's been addressed before and is even in the ToS/EULA.

Frankly, I'd rather that players who will make all sorts of utterly unfounded presumptions about others, not to mention waste support's time by reporting completely legitimate behaviors, keep their CMDRs as out of sight and out of mind as a shared BGS allows for.

PLEASE tell me she was then criminally prosecuted for something...

I think it would help the less educated and open minded people if they quit looking at things through a /not a value system and instead learned to understand that the ED universe is basically just an eco system full of animals. Player hotspots such as Jameson's are the watering holes where all the "animals" must eventually gather. Some of these animals just want to get a drink and munch some tasty ferns, while some other animals want to get a drink and munch some tasty fern eaters. There's nothing personal about it, it's just the way nature works. Quit bringing negative values to the discussion and realize that all playstyles are valid, all animals have a right to behave according to nature's plan and immediately you'll start to have a brighter, happier picture of how things work.

Just stop playing in open. There is no further problem. Let them ram each other in open until the giggles are gone. I love the pirating aspect of the game, but I won't play in open because they don't care about yer booty, just yer blood. Arrr. Unfortunately I don't get to experience the real deal in solo because I can always kill the pirate or get away.

I haven't been keeping up with the Crime and Punishment debate, but I hope some of the changes move toward solving the mindless killing aspect of the game. FDev is doing a fantastic job on so much stuff currently that I am sure C&P will be worked out eventually.
