Unprovoked Security Attack

I was at a nav beacon doing a bit of bounty hunting and found that after a few kills the security were starting to attack me even though I am not wanted. I dounble checked this.

So, after jumping out and coming back I decided to check the alignment of the wanted ships before I killed them. They were the same as the security ships. After a few kills the faction turn red at the nav beacon, including the security ships, which resulted in them attacking.

Is this as intended or a bug?

Will ticket anyway.
 
Ive noticed if they show up green on the scanner but still say wanted I think it means they are of the same faction as you and it would appear the police don't like you attacking them regardless of their wanted status . Super cruising out and coming back in again seems to make them forget :)
 
Had this happen to me and I too just jump out and back in.
It seems to me that the security ships are taking faction over wanted status which I think is wrong. I get that attacking local faction ships without a wanted tag gets you in trouble but this feels like a bug.
A criminal in their own country is still a criminal they don't get a pat on the back and 'it's ok mate you're one of us'

Supposedly this is a known "bug" and it will be fixed.

I wrote "bug" in quotation marks because the AI IS behaving as programmed - it's just that the programming is really silly. Basically - what Kramster wrote - security will "defend" their own faction, even if the ship you fired upon was wanted. This has the added "benefit" of also making all the other non-security forces which are allied with the wanted ship attack you AND they won't get a wanted tag either! When this happens retract your hardpoints, kick that afterburner and jump out ASAP. You can then immediately make a U turn and jump back in and all will be reset.

For this reason it's best to either carefully watch what you're shooting (faction affiliation of the target) or hunt at Nav Points in Anarchy systems (where there's no security to attack you, albeit the same "faction will turn red" issue remains - except you can shoot back and usually a lot of them are wanted anyway).

There is the reason you were attacked. Faction trumps wanted status.

Attack wanted on those NOT affiliated with dominant security faction in sector.

Clearly a game feature needing an overhaul. Wanted AI and faction police clearly need sorted and their relationship to players.
