The new Unreal Tournament 4 development seems like a potentially interesting opportunity for people interested in game development. Epic are using a (kind of) open-source method, where anyone can participate in discussions about the game design. All 'code and content' will be available 'live' via GitHub, though you'll need to have a subscription to Unreal Engine 4 to use it.
The game will be totally free once live (not f2p), with a marketplace for modders/artists to sell content, any takings being split with Epic.
