Hardware & Technical unsolvable joystick problems

Hey there,

I`m sorry to bother all of you, but I have a problem: My joystick (König Defender Cobra M5) is always rolling left. It has nothing to do with the software, I tried every forum I could find and I'm all out of ideas.

This is the problem:
Whenever rolling to the right, it is recognized as a left roll. Exept for one tiny spot, where it turns all to the right. Reconfiguration did not work. There are no drivers to reinstall. I did not change my system. The joystick did not fall down. I never tried to open the Joystick up, it just appeared after one week without usage of the joystick.

If there is anybody out there with an idea , you would be my hero. I don't want to buy another joystick and I don't want to miss out on elite.

I'd try a different port and see if everything appears ok in the game controllers configuration in Windows. Also, have you introduced anything magnetic nearby? I had some strangeness with my x52 after putting a magnetic headset/DK2 holder on my desk, it went away after moving it.

I tried every port I have from USB2 - USB3. The magnetic thing could be the solution. I did place my headset dierectly next to it, in fact wrapped it around the base of the joystick.

Did you fix the problem somehow?

Sounds like your joystick needs to be recalibrated, not sure how that can be done, or it has become loose, either way, go into the control settings, next to the roll axis you will see a little bar called deadzone, increase that until rolling stops, possible not a lot is needed.

It's nothing to do with the deadzone. The deadzone works fine. The problem is, if I roll to the right, or the left, the software/hardware recognizes a left roll. It does also not matter, if i do this ingame (bf3/elite/warthunder) or in the windows setup for the joystick.

I already tried all the ports I have (USB2 - USB3). The magnetic thing could be the problem. I did in fact wrap my headset around the base of the joystick, whilst not using both.

Did you somehow solve the problem?

If you add a bit of deadzone via ingame controls it might stop.
does it stop it? have you tested it?

What joystick is it? Can you use it on any other game, and if so, does it have the same problem? How new is it, (is it under warranty)?

"Tried removing all other peripherals?" - Even my mouse.

I did buy it for elite beta. Jet, if i can fix it, I would love to.

If under guarantee then do return as suggested.

I use a Speedlink and had similar problems, sorted with the tiniest squoosh of WD40 inside the pot. Be very careful not to use more than a tiny drop and definitely don't let it drip out. That stuff gums up plastic.

Your not the first person on the forums to mention this, over the months i have noticed dozens having the same issue with different joysticks. In controls do you have "roll axis" bound instead of "roll left and" roll right" bound individually?

What O/S?

I was having the issue with my x45 and had to calibrate it. Windows has built in calibration (I'm on 8.1) and that solved my problem. Different j/s so maybe it won't work for you, but worth a try, takes 30 seconds. Google: Windows joystick calibration, plenty of explanations.

You say it rolls left when you roll it right, except for at a certain point.

I expect you have removed any magnetic devices from the vicinity of the joystick by now. By the way.. if you by any chance are using an old fashioned tube monitor (CRT), those have rather strong magnetic fields, as do some speakers and fashionable tesla coils. At least now I'm sure you are keeping your joystick away from all of those.

Also leave it unplugged for a few minutes, just to make sure there is little or no residue current; wiping any gremlins from the circuits.

Do run the windows calibration tool and watch the graphics carefully. If those graphics report the same thing and does not get corrected by a very thorough calibration... I have one, not very pleasant, thought:

You might have a short-circuit in there.

The X-52 use Hall-Effect (magnetic) sensors to read the stick position. Strong magnetic fields near the stick and effect the calibration and reading of position.

Hi. I have a Saitek x52 which was working fine until I tried reinstalling the driver to just get the lcds to come on. Now every-time I load up my ship it rolls left even though the stick is in neutral. Have tried all of the above but without success. Re-installing driver / software again, tested the calibrations which seem to register fine in control panel. I'm at my wits end! My brother has just joined with his mac and I can't even fly out of space dock! Flight assist is most definitely ON. Please help!
