Upcoming Asia Pack?

We all know the sun bear has been leaked in a recent video. It could be a regional or group dlc like the aquatic pack or it could be a Asia pack. Hypothetically going with the Asia pack based on the games lack of Asian animals to a point here are ten choices that could be in the pack. Based on previous packs I’ll only go with the current dlc format in place as I doubt it’s going to change. Here’s some choices of what could be the other 3 animals to join the sun bear.

A long shot but very unique choice would be a proboscis monkey.

There are a few leopard choices like this Sri Lanka leopard of course there’s also the Indian as well plus a few others.

A fan favorite the gibbon could definitely be a top choice candidate and are one of the most requested animals. Possibly a safe bet but will see.

From India a black buck would give people a unique antelope to use instead of the more popular African species.

A small cat that is actually classified as a big cat the clouded leopard would be a great choice especially for indoor exhibits and perhaps the most beautifully patterned cat in the world.

Another great choice would be the binturong and a pretty highly requested animal as well.

The Malayan tapir also seems to be highly requested and could be a great alternative for habitats to the Baird’s tapir.

Another unique animal would be the babirusa and would give people another pig choice in game.

The Przewalskes wild horse seems to be a popular choice(forgive me for butchering the name). Seems like likely candidate to eventually make the roster.

Another unpopular choice but a great small cat species choice would be the Pallas Cat. Not necessarily a forum fan favorite for many but these would make some cool choices imo.

I know there’s many more options like tigers, asiatic lions, nilgia antelope, and many more not listed but I went with these ten choices.
As for exhibit animal choices I really think the king cobra is the front runner with a possible reticulated python being a second choice.

They could end up as a tree dwelling animals type pack or maybe something else. I see the demand for the Malayan tapir and this is the one similar animal type I just can’t buy into personally. It’s just too similar to the Baird’s tapir imo. I’d much rather have any animal listed above really. As far as similar animals go the Masai giraffe, blue wildebeest, Sumatran tiger, asiatic lion, even the Grevys zebra I’d rather see honestly. The Malayan tapir just strikes me as boring for some reason. If we didn’t have the Baird’s tapir then I could get on the bandwagon more. That’s just my opinion so it means nothing really.

My personal big one for a (southeast) Asian pack is the binturong. I love them and I think that they're common enough at zoos to be featured as an oddball/unexpected favorite pick. We desperately need more smallish animals. My main worry is that they cover some of the same bases that the sun bear does (dark furred arboreal omnivore) so they might get the shaft. I'd actually prefer a tanuki more than even the binturong, but I feel like they're far less likely.

The demand for a gibbon is substantial enough that I think one is more than warranted. The lar gibbon is more unique looking compared to our current primates, but I have a mild preference for siamangs since one of my most nearby zoos has them.

Leopards are in my opinion one of the top 5 egregiously missing animals (alongside African rhinos, meerkats, sea lions, and capybaras), so they might actually be my most wanted for such a DLC pack. Any subspecies is fine, I couldn't possibly be picky, but if I had to choose I suppose I'd opt for the Amur.

I've really enjoyed getting new birds in the last two packs so a red-crowned crane or a fancy pheasant would also be phenomenal.

Failing all of those, the Malayan tapir and babirusa are also fantastic choices to round out the lineup. There's so many amazing options for an Asian pack, I probably wouldn't have even put sun bears in my top 20. Oh well.

I think the Proboscis Monkey would be a neat addition. I wouldn’t be disappointed if they were excluded and I really don’t expect them on the roster. But it would be so much different then the animals on the roster to this point. And as far as I know a first of any games to feature one without user made content. The hard thing about choosing what animals you’d like to see in game is it will always exclude a animal you also would like to have but so far I’m pretty content with the animal roster to this point.

The 4 animals and a box is growing old. There are so many great animal choices from Asia! But I reallyyyyyyy don't want to wait all this time for the Asian expansion to just be only 4 species...

That being said I wanted to see the babirusa badly, but this game seems to highly value "cuteness" with their dlc choices.

And the binturong should be able to be displayed with zoo talker and guest can interact with it.

Part of me wishes they don't come up with a regional Asia pack because I would panic thinking they would be the only 4-or-so new animals we'll get from the continent. I expect a Southeast Asia pack to be more likely and come with other DLCs to include animals from the mountains and steppes of Asia.

The binturong is in my top 10 essential animals list. It's one of a select list of animals which is pretty unique but common enough in zoos, so it doesn't seem to be a long shot. The leopard will show up sooner rather than later.

If they add any species of gibbon I really hope they take whatever time they need to make realistic animations for them. I'd say brachiation, the way they walk in two legs and their howling sounds are the single most distinguishing aspects of gibbons, and it would be a shame to see one of them reutilising one of the current ape animation sets. Also I hope gibbons can share an exhibit with orangutans.

I don't see much demand for the Przewalski's horse but I really hope to see them make their way into any DLC, as a symbol of successful conservation efforts.

I really wish we get at least one Asian bird in the future (Red-crowned crane?).

@Witch King of Angmar birds of course are on the table also. I know there’s obviously plenty of choices especially if aviary was implemented atm but I chose mammals for the most part since it’s more simple. For some reason when I think birds Asia is the continent I overlook a little bit although many would make great choices.

Still want a Sichuan Takin and a Raccoon Dog... which I always say when "Asia Pack" comes up... also Northern Sulawesi Babirusa, but with the Sun Bear seemingly the obligate clone I'm not so sure I'd want a pig clone...

In terms of demand within the community, using the 30 essential animals meta-wishlist as a measure, the Przewalski's horse is number 10 and is the most requested Asian animal.

Asian animals in the top hundred (I exclude Middle-Eastern desert species and Eurasian species like wild boar and wolverine). The number in brackets refers to their placing in the list.

  • Przewalski's horse (10)
  • An Asian leopard species (11)
  • Lar gibbon (11)
  • Clouded leopard (15)
  • Malayan tapir (16)
  • Asian small-clawed otter (21)
  • Binturong (21)
  • Babirusa (24)
  • Takin (40)
  • Sun bear (45)
  • Blackbuck (47)
  • Markhor (59)
  • Siamang (59)
  • Dhole (63)
  • Proboscis monkey (74)
  • Saiga (74)
  • Yak (74)

Always a bit surprised about the popularity of this one.

It looks good but already having the Baird's Tapir, not the most exciting animal to see in-age imo. At least not anymore.
Is this a Zoo Tycoon thing ? :D

I discovered the Malayan tapir (and tapirs in general) through Zoo Tycoon many years ago and I don't know why, but it's one of the animals that I used a lot back in time. I think that the reason that people like it is probably because of its color, a name that's easy to remember, and its general look. However, I agree with you that having already one tapir in game, if we can only pick 4 animals from Asia, I would prefer anything else despite how much I like this curious looking animal.

Tbh, in the beginning I was picking this one too. Mainly for the look. To me, it lost a lot of appeal in the last months (no explanation why)
If we are getting 4 habitat animals and the Malayan tapir is among them - i'd be somewhat disappointed. there are other preferences.

I think it's interesting to know why this one has that much appeal in so many animal lists. It's not part of the common animal selection in zoos.

If we get an Asia pack (and I think we will, even if not next) I would choose between:

Sun Bear (I like them, but they're not one I would have chosen offhand. But they are obviously in the files so I pretty much have to include them)
Clouded Leopard
Gibbon of some species
Small Clawed Otter
Amur Leopard

I know that's 5 habitat animals and one would end up not making the cut if they stick to their format. I'm just not sure which one I'd drop.

Exhibit animal: Indian Cobra and there's not even a second choice for me. This is a no brainer to include.

If we get an Asia pack I certainly hope we wont see Malayan Tapir in it. I mean we already have a Tapir in game, and if we only get 4 habitat animals it takes a spot for another unique animal we could have instead. So from me, NO to Malayan Tapir.

I think and hope we would have something more like this.
  • Sun Bear (Leaked last I checked so if this pack comes this might be in it)
  • Clouded Leopard (Popular pick and quite beautiful)
  • Gibbon (Popular pick)
  • Saiga Antelope (Popular and endangered, also a unique appearance. Preferably the subspecies: Saiga tatarica tatarica)
  • King Cobra (A popular and a magnificent snake species, quite shocked we still don't have a cobra in the collection of snakes)
I think this would make up a good collection of animals in such a pack.
Now I know Leopard (Subspecies: Arabian, Amur, Indian, Indochinese, Javan, North China, Persian, Sri Lankan) is also a popular pick and might be added in this pack. In that case I would hope we get that instead of the Clouded Leopard.
