Newcomer / Intro Upcoming BETA - what things are possible..?

With the new Beta due out, I was wondering how the 'savegame' works...

I know it designed to test out all the new features....

But is it also possible to try out different techniques for 'free' - ie taking on an Anaconda, or a gang of pirates, then losing...... and still be able to go back to the old savegame position (in regular play) that existed at the start of the Beta, without incurring all those 'insurance' hits...

How does it work...?

The Beta server doesn't carry over into the regular game. It just takes a copy of the game state from a week or so ago.

What he said. A copy of your current real save is put into the beta. After that, anything that happens in beta stays in beta. If you buy a new ship or make a billion credits, has nothing to do with the regular game.

That being said, I remember way back when in a beta that they dropped ship prices and module prices down, so people could test out any new ships that were being released. Don't know if it will happen again, but hey, it's beta. Just like when diablo 3 runs a beta and boosts legendary drop rates 1000% so people can easily get them and test them.

As above have said regarding the save, plus ships, modules etc are very much reduced in price IIRC so you can try them out.

Any progress made in Beta isn't carried back over to the live servers/save.

The exact nature of the setup of the test won't become clear until it gets released. For example, during the last beta, the engineer unlocks were relaxed and requirements lowered for upgrades, but whether the same would apply in this beta we won't know until it hits. The rules can also be changed as the beta moves forwards and focus changes.

I think the rebuy screen costs relate to the price you paid for the ship, so an in-beta destruction of your ship would cost normal rebuy figures, but a destruction of a cheaper ship bought in the beta would cost proportionally less.

Of course, if you are an in-game billionaire then none of this really matters, but the rest of us do have to watch the pennies a little bit - just less so than in the regular game.

None of the beta stuff (including clear save) has any effect on your main save. Just make sure you're in the right one before doing anything drastic...

Xbox - is usually after PC
.
Ship costs are generally 10% of actual in Beta but ships being introduced in Beta may not follow this rule. You sell your existing ship for full price and then can go and play. Also on of the stations in LHS3447 normally also stocks everything to allow everyone to play with new ships/modules.
