Update 1.1 has INCREASED my power consumption?? Now I can't deploy my weaps!

By disableing modules using the priority setting, once they are off, does this give you a little edge cooling wise as well?
 
Yep, I found this out in my Cobra, after I interdicted an NPC, and deployed hardpoints...my ship shut down. :eek:

Frantic fiddling with power settings and firegroups and I sorted him out.

I have an A grade power plant, and distributor, so this worried me.

In the end I had to downgrade my thrusters, shield cells, and KWS to bring things back into line again.

I now only have 4 shield cells instead of 12, but otherwise haven't noticed much difference.

Haven't used the dumbfires yet, so can't comment on that, but my beams still work ok :)
 
Logged in for the first time last night in my mostly A viper with 2 C2 Beams and 2 C1 MC. On my way to a Nav beacon got interdicted by a NPC Cobra and nearly died when I deployed and nearly everything shut down. Switched off SCB and got rid of him. Gave it some thought and decided I would be better keeping my SCB and change out my beams, or at least one of them.
So for now, I switched the SCB back on and disabled one beam.
Continued to the Nav beacon and took down an Anaconda. A couple of Cmdrs joined in, but I did most of the work and got the bounty (or so the message in info panel said, but I never got the bounty.. bug?).
Anyway, I needed to go get another beer, so I boosted away, 7km or so, for a bit of space, then dashed to the fridge.
On return I was under fire. Desperately trying to get seated and to grips with my Hotas, without spilling said beer, I took a lot of hits and shield was down to one ring.
Tally ho, I turned clumsily, still getting my bearings and turned to return fire. Shields nearly gone so popped a cell... nothing!
Next thing I know shields down and realise both Cmdrs are hitting me and my hull is down to 58%.
Time to make a strategic exit so I make a run for it.

So... just when I get comfortable enough in my viper to join in PVP, I feel like a beginner again.
No doubt I am going to have to change loadout.

Was considering 1 C2 Beam, 1 C2MC and 2 C1MC, along with 1 SCB or
2 burst and 2 MC and SCB or maybe stick with my current loadout and just go without SCB altogether.
Anybody finding SCBs useful in a viper? When do you pop them?

Funny thing Is I will then have two empty slots as I never carry cargo.
No point in fitting an interdicter unless I ditch the chaf as we only have 2 utility slots and one is for the KWS

What are other committed Viper pilots doing with outfitting post 1.1?
 
I sold my Viper because of this power consumption issue, there just isn't enough power available with a D class warrant scanner, A class scanner, shield cell module, decent weapons etc (and this is with fsd/cargo/fuel scoop priority lowered)....until shield cells are removed from the game all together the viper is no longer viable to me. I'd be happy without cell banks if I knew no-one else would have them too and I personally think that's what should be done, remove them from the game!....onto a Cobra for attack duties for now.....

I run mine with A power, distributor,shields, D thrusters, C FSD with kill warrant, chaff, 2 C1 beams and 2 C2 multis. It can only jump 9ly but I keep it in an Anarchy world and it never leaves the system. If I want one elsewhere, I take my adder explorer or buy a hauler and then set up another viper there. Still kicks butt.


Update... just managed to put a plasma accelerator on in place of one of the C2 Multis, dropped fsd and sensors to D and scb to c3. all works and can still manage 9ly jump. Running under 12 mw. The options are still there. Personally, id love to see the scb dropped in favour of different shield types like the hull armour. More rock paper scissors (lizard spock) and less spam the button.

Think I will just go back to no SCB, managed without it before and for NPC just means backing off when shields are down. Wish they recovered quicker when four pips and not taking fire though, because its just waiting around at that point.
Under fire I can understand it taking longer.
Edit: also have Military shields.
Edit2: Something I need to test. If your shields go down and you enter SC and exit SC. Are your shields magically restored to full (I faced a Cmdr who would jump int SC just before losing his shields (really annoying) and then reappear shortly after with full shields....

Yeah, either way you go it aint worth bothering with whilst SCB's are available to others and you need them...Just earn 6-7 mil and trade it in for a fully equipped Cobra! I would love to see SCB's gone though, I would have a Viper again if that happened

Adding to this...I do think the way this was introduced was pretty brutal, and I know it has cost a lot of people their ships. The lack of specific numbers given to the players regarding these changes, along with no warning of potential implications...IE launching thinking everything is fine, and then arriving in combat, deploying hardpoints, and everything shutting down...quite the surprise as your ships get torn down around you.

Given the antics of a few unsociable players last week at Lave and Leesti it comes as no surprise that this was done. Using shield cells and chaff continuously as protection against inside station fire to blow docking CMDR's to bits with one shot (just for cheap laughs) with barrages of dumbfire missiles was peeing plenty of people off. I lost my cobra to these chumps after a 160LY trip.
 
So I can't use shield cells on my viper because someone else was being annoying.

That's just great. I think I'll go back to Skyrim until the 1.2 patch comes out.
