Update 13 needs to have a patch 37. If you have to ask why, please hand in your Pilot's Federation licence.

I just had a thought, I think it's brilliant. I don't care what it contains even if it's just one bug fix, but update 13 needs a patch 37.

Unusually for me, I know the answer but I don't want to draw anyone away from the topic, so why don't you explain why for our viewers?

a large number of updates to a dlc (many of which intended as bug fixes and optimizations rather than normal content adds) doesn't really look good. Considering the declaration that this pursuit of optimization has reached a milestone, I'd think they would want to re-set future updates so it doesn't look like they're on the Nth update to try and fix their dlc still, and not just in a perceptual way of changing the name, but in what it will contain ...ie, no longer will there be a focus on optimizing but instead they would be moving on. A rebranding of the updates to differentiate the new from the previous 11. That's what i would expect going forward, rather than a continuation of the numbered updates until some future new paid dlc. I'd expect this to coincide with some new feature or event and the name of the update to be connected to that and intermediate bugfixes to be numbered reset to 1 in between these named updates (like with horizons).

I agree, but they don't have to do 36 patches just to have a 37th. They could release update 13 and then the first patch for it they publicly release is #37. They can name it any number they want, it doesn't have to be .01 etc.

I'm not sure if I can wait for update 69 myself.

1337 is translated in "leet" in, well, "leetspeak" or "1337 5|*34|<". It is usually short for "elite" but in a nerd/gamer way. And the game is called Elite. There you go.

The term seems to have originated from the monsters known as "leet" from the MMORPG Anarchy Online. It is a very weak monster, and very likely to be the very first mob to fight in the game. It is what I heard anyway.

As such, 1337 is as charged in symbolism than say 80085.

true, but it would not have much meaning if it was just arbitrarily released as such.

by that logic, they could have released any update as update 13 patch 37 in the past. It wouldn't be the same though.

I think we'll see a desire to differentiate future updates from the past 11 updates to get odyssey back on track now that fdev has said they're shifting focus and moving on. So it's unlikely we'll see a continuation of numbers.

That was genuinely what I had in my mind, so glad I'm not as out of touch with pop culture as my avatar would imply!

Do you remember the picture from my car last year, where I got to 80085 miles - it was in SotG early days, but I can dig it out for lols!

You seem to be missing the point as usual, but at least the other guys here can comprehend!

leet speak was on-topic since that was the point of the thread. since you didn't want to get off topic, i figured you weren't referring to explaining the leet speak.

leet speak is different from calculator words though, which 58008 and the like come from. Leet speak involves mixing numbers in with letters where convenient for h4x0r effect. The other thing is about making words completely out of numbers (usually flipped upside down to be read in word form) because that's what you're limited to on old style calculators. They're unrelated.

leet speak has it's root in hexidecimal ...where it is common for programmers to spell out words in hex addresses/values for fun. Since these will give you numbers and letters to use. It was extended way beyond that when it caught on as a way for script kiddies to sound cool on irc and what not.
