UPDATE 2016 Carriers, Proximity Chat, Bookmarks

Carriers, Proximity Chat, (Bookmarks are in game now). the updates that can still make the cut for 2016 !!
No depth, ED is a grind, boring, no-one around, is the common forum chatter !! UNTIL !!

Proximity Chat; a 5km spherical radio bubble, transmitted by all ships, (Carriers are hubs) all within the 5km bubble can talk with each other, closer too each other, clearer the sound, until you fly out of the bubble.

Proximity Chat , should just be that , line of sight , to understand the voice , your voice & theirs becomes more garbled the further you are away, until silence when either no radar contact is targeted , or your outside the range of their bubble

Example
Enter a system , its silent unless you happened to jumped in on top of players talking hanging out at that star.

You scan, see radar contacts, but only one of the player contacts is ' garbled voice static' heard, and only when you target the ship in your scan

The only time you will hear another player is when inside their bubble :D


Carriers

Carriers in the game , the benefits are.

Carriers explain how NPC magically appear in the middle of nowhere and never run out of bullets ,never break down

Carriers can be used as the communication hubs , for proximity chat , to expand the bubble for the wings up too 5 km

Carriers give weight and power to the game

Carriers allow wings to move all at once in one ship

Carriers are expensive

Carriers, are not a warships just containers that allows players too transport 3 ships too far away systems ,when YOU the player is not aboard, the Carrier will use micro jumps too escape been attacked , so stays in the same system as you


The Carriers

Station shuttle Carriers; allows you to move your ships from one system to another

System Carriers; can hold 3 ships , or one Wing, you can dock repair refuel rearm range of XXly

Fleet Cartel Carriers; huge ship has 100ly jump range, holds 6 wings


All NPC ships with Carriers in the game can now run out of ammo and fuel, so now must get re- supplied
Carrier can run out or low thus need to re-supply at stations

Carriers , are the moving platforms for ships , carriers allow NPC ships to re fuel re-arm repair

If you see an enemy wing you can be sure a Carrier is near by As Carrier Wings will make Combat attack craft , allowing the carrier to be the FSD transport

so with Carriers in the game , Fighter craft , really become fighter craft, as they are not wasting anything when been built on FSD or Fuel

Last thoughts
ED not boring or a grind , just there's no-way for groups of players to communicate with each other quickly with voice knowing that whom your talking with is also close by, with Carriers , and Bookmarks. Players are able to move around remember where they have been and talk to anyone passing by, too wing up, or shoot them [big grin]

That all sounds pretty good to me. Except the ranges for that Comm's Bubble is way too small. Even in regular space 1k to 5k range is nothing. That feature could use to have a much wider range. Otherwise, keep it coming.
 

Bookmarks are confirmed for 2.1 so yeah, gather you didn't notice it?

As for local/proximity chat, that has been talked about before and suggested by many including me, having a voice channel that is open to all, aka like local, would make communication easier so people don't need to type especially if they are using hotas, add that they should add a way for people to see IF people are typing/talking e.t.c, this would help Elite a lot I believe.

As for carriers I'm not sure of idea sounds a bit weird? maybe elaborate it a bit more rather then just bulletpoints?
 
We need a small carrier (needle shaped, spinning) which you can dock with via a port on the bottom which essentially you can pay to jump somewhere far out, wait for an allotted time, and take you back.

We have a carrier in game. It's called the Keelback. It's just launchable fighters that aren't in yet.

Carriers aren't stations , only friendly ships can dock with a carrier, ( ie your wing ) Carriers are not attack ships Carries can be destroyed Carries are slow but can repeatedly use their FSD to jump short distance if under attack. Carriers have many FDS drives allowing one to be active while the other is cooling down.

Carriers , can be your mobile base , with an Attack Trader Explorer built ships docked

Wait... so really large ships are coming soon for players to buy? Or is this NPC only for the time being.

Hrm, well they have said very large ships will come, so maybe it is already in the pipeline?

Yes suggestion .. but the Carrier , does allow , for Powerplay to work better

As at the moment if I want to Powerplay I need to do missions with the right ships. With a Carrier , I could have all the types I need docked
Attack Trader Explorer and move the Carrier to the system to Powerplay on , instead of , just 'one ship' I now have 3 ships to Powerplay with , much better , faster.. more fun.

This goes for any missions in the game, you have all landed read the Bulletin board , only too see something you would do , but are in the WRONG ship so you, either buy the ship you need , travel to the ship you need , then come back do the mission, or just skip it , keep doing the same missions/trading/bounty , it the same ship , as getting the other ships to do other missions , is too hard too boring too far, and now we know why ED is called a grind by some .

Carriers stop all that , with Carriers , you have choices, on the spot , right that minute , :)

Carriers and Proximity! that sounds great i love it and that would give even more incentive for people to group up!
