This is a fantastic update in my opinion. The level of detail which will be going into the game is going to make it so immersive in so many ways.

The section when John Laws is discussing how if a ship is damaged by enemy fire where you will be able to see the interior layout and a tangible destructive effect on the ship instead of a generic damage indicator, is going to make it unbelievably realistic.

The fact that your actions will be portrayed in this way proves to me just how good this is going to be.

Also, John, you need to brush up on your presenting skills. :D made me laugh :D

The section that made me happiest was the talk on the individual identities of systems. It's nice to think there'll be somewhere out there in the vastness of space that I feel at home. Some run-down system where the beer's cheap and they don't ask why you've got such a big bounty riding on your head. Especially as it will most likely be down to parking violations.

Yes, and the fact that the ships are clearly going to be built to scale is even more exciting: that one human being is as big as an ant besides a ship like the Anaconda. :)

And I love the idea that Sol will look like... Sol, whereas Arcturus will have a weird red glow about it and other things like that. :)

As long as it doesn't end up like the pea soup systems in the X series - man that used to get on my goat. Whoever dreamed up the proximity discovery of stations in X needs to get a severe beating. Really? Hundreds of years into the future and you still need to drift over next to a weapons factory to find out that it's a weapons factory?!?!?!? Ugh - idiotic game design at its best IMO. Nice coloured glows are all good, just as long as it's not nebulae all over the place. Space is space baby - big, dark and empty... except for the bit's that aren't :p

Ugh. X. I hate X. Space that looks like God's puked all over it, various bad design decisions, such as that you've mentioned and most importantly, not set in our own galaxy. Argon Prime (or whatever it was called). Really? Give me Earth, Saturn and Mars or it's a deal breaker - but fortunately they've already confirmed several times that they're aiming for as close an approximation of the Milky Way as possible. :)

Hated the X games as well....There was a badly animated character called Ban Danna.

facepalm

I think we can all agree the X games are pretty horrendously written, animated and voice acted. X-Play did a review of X3:Reunion and the fact the badguys were named "The Kha'ak" (Pronounced exactly how you *think* it's pronounced ;)) just meant they did a whole stream of rude jokes. You can see it here if ye like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pi8n6uN091E

Horrible character animation aside though, at least space looked pretty good. I don't mind the fact that space is pretty and varied. And yep, whilst space appears black to human eyes, to proper sensors (like the Hubble Space Telescope) there's *plenty* of pretty stuff to look at.

I'd like to see an "image enhanced" mode to attract all the attention deficit types like myself who want space to look shiny, as well as a "vanilla human vision" version for all the traditionalists who want to see it as black.

Well, I liked X2. But now I go and fire my game up and I look at the hundreds of stations and thousands of ships and think "ummm, whats happening". Along with the multiple billions of $$$ I have available.

And now I find I just can't get excited about X3. Rather sad as I've bought all games up to X3: reunion singley, and then bought the X superbox. So I own most of them twice.
