Update information to non forum players

I posted this in the newsletter, but don't think ill get a response

Anyway... I have 2 friends that I play ED with. They have no interest to be on the forums or subscribe to any newsletters, they just want to play the game. One is a dedicated smuggler, and I informed him of the speed restriction when docking. This ticked him off a bit because he uses the boost method to enter the station. So my question is: How will players that only play the game and have no interest in forum/newsletter chatter react to some of these major changes to the game? Lets take the speed restriction when docking and the ramming change? Should a player be penalized for not knowing of a game change? Fined for doing something they have been doing since release? My friends have since read the newsletter I sent them and they stated they would have been completely lost without reading this. Just wondering if FD have thought of using some sort of popup before the game starts urging players to read about the new updates and changes to the game? How about a message on screen for the first few docks, reminding players of the speed restriction and new ramming policy? I feel that would add to immersion, the station actually greeting me and letting me know they have made changes to their spatial procedures.

In the game launcher when an update comes out for full release, they'll be a new post in the news feed. That post will have a link in it for the changelog for the update and it'll include changes like speeding. So in a sense, they already do have a pop up that urges players to read about new updates and changes.

How about the link to the full change-log in the game launcher? I know it's a big read but it does cover off ALL of the changes currently planned for the 1.3 release.

Ninja'd.

Not knowing the rules doesn't mean they don't apply to you.

If your friends can't be bothered to keep themselves up-to-date, they have one option left...learning by doing (or dying, as the case may be).

Your friend can go as fast as he wants, he just has to not crash into anyone, that's all.

if they can't even bother to read patch notes to see what's different, why bother complaining that the game changed?

They're going to have a rough time playing this game if they're too lazy to read a few paragraphs of change logs at the very least.

Is there any ETA other than "this week" been given for the public release of powerplay?

i hope it will the next week (wednesday) when the product is really finished and stable, rather to rush it to this friday and leave it unpatched 'til monday

I know the individuals on this forum is a small majority of the whole that plays ED. How many do you think take the time to read the updates? I am sure there is a large percentage of players that do not read the updates. Granted I am sure the smart ones who do not, apply the update, start the game and then "WHOA! What is this" Quit and then read the updates. Issue is, the updates are sometimes difficult to decipher, and is discussed on the forum to get a clearer description. By the time the release is here, finding that info or getting replies may be more difficult to receive as we will all be playing. I don't know, its just a thing that I was thinking about.

Most of the features in an update are fairly self explanatory without a need to read the changelog, but the ones that aren't are often very minor, like speeding, and only effect you if your doing something you shouldn't really be doing in the first place, i.e ramming other ships. Tbh I can't really think of a solution to your problem unless FD copy and paste the changelog directly into the game which to some would be immersion breaking.

New game:-

Elite : Mammoth-Change-Log-Reading-Session.

I think the grind level will be about the same as the current game though.......:D

This!
Is it really that hard to go searching a bit on the internet if you suddenly see 3 hours of update popping up on your launcher? I'm not active in forums of other games, but I most certainly do actively seek up the changelog when update happens. It may even be a good read and time well spent while waiting.
