Thought it might be of interest. :D

The next Alpha release will be 3.0, and will include docking, launching and outfitting. We’ll release a dev diary in the next couple of week to reflect on the alpha process so far and look at the next release stage in more detail, and our plan to beta. We’re aiming to release 3.0 in mid-March.

From Elite release in March 2014, to expecting Alpha 3.0 in March 2014, that is a bit of a delay, but not uncommon I suppose in the industry.

I think the timing is extremely smart for Alpha 3.0 given its shortly after Alpha 2.0 and before Alpha 4.0

Congratulations Frontier... Excellent scheduling..

ps. Any left over sarcasm will be donated to countless charity call centres everwhere..

:D

I CAN NOT WAIT!!!! Docking or as I call it... crashing.

Did anyone really think it would be finished by then though? I dont work in the industry myself but it still made me raise an eyebrow when I read that estimate.

From the first Alpha release in December (the distruption of the holidays more or less wiping out that month's production) to final release 3 months later for a game of this scope seemed ambitious to say the least.

All latest updates can be found on the link at the bottom of my sig. It is maintained with all the latest info as we know it. :)

and the Bruce Campbell voice ?

I find that slightly strange. There's a lot that needs fixing. I guess they maybe want to iron it all out in the beta?

I think that means that for those crashes they know what's problem, and they don't need to verify that, but for some of bigger problems they need to rewrite some network code. Rewrite usually means some time required.

I don't think no more alpha 2.0 releases necessarily mean that work will be dropped on that part of the game

Some of the bugs in alpha 2.0 will probably be relevant to alpha 3

also I doubt the entire team will be working on the net code, so it possibly makes sense to let the net code bod carry on working, and integrate any fixes into alpha 3.0 at the same time as everything else.

...........................maybe! :)
