Upgrade "mini-game"

As an avid trader I enjoy repetition and slowly working towards a goal without automation, so I was excited when the 1.1 update came out.

As with other "major releases" since beta, my technique has been as follows:

- Log in to the launcher
- Select Upgrade and wait 5 seconds
- Cancel the upgrade five or six times, to get the silently failed error "invalid manifest checksum"
- Get the actual download going, make between 5-20% progress before the connection peters out to zero, while making tea, cooking eggs, going to work, or otherwise getting on with my crazy life
- Finally get the update downloaded after 3 or 4 days of casual grinding

Currently up to 40% on 1.1. I hope they don't nerf this mini-game with some sort of auto-win unattended download, like they have in Eve (I expect...)

Only complaint is there is no rank associated with this activity. I think by now I have progressed well past "mostly tedious" to at least "dangerously frustrated"

:)

LOL.

Last night's Upgrading was its toughest challenge yet.

Got back from my shift at the hospital at 6pm. Managed to get on the game at 8pm. The reward was a good patch though.

All I can say is, there must be a lot of people with far too much going on their PC's. I have a new machine I built or Elite and as a general gaming pc project with an asus mobo, AMD 6350 6 core unclocked at 3.9Ghz with16gb PC 1866hz ram 120gb SSD for o/s 1tb 7200rpm hdd Sapphire radeon R7 265gpu Windows 7 pro. My web is bt fibre@ 60 gig. I have never had any problems with the launcher, never experienced any error messages, had only minor server outages usually documented by the devs. My game runs pretty well at highest settings. Infact the only glitchyness I get is the framerate freeze as you come out of fsd. Now I am no expert, but I would summise that many problems people have must surely be down to their local environment and not the game??? I am not posting this in a derogatory fashion, merely stating that on my vanilla system these events and others like it, simply do not occur.

My launcher gives all kinds of terrible feedback. Specifically, it will show downloading at 0.0s, when in fact it continues to download. I've learned to just turn it on, let it run and it will do it's jobs. Restarting it all the time improves nothing.

To the OP: you can't necessarily blame the launcher for failing to download, there is the whole internet thing going on that is beyond Frontier's control.

I have average internet - I can happily stream HD video without buffering... My PC was assembled solely to play ED and is pretty much a virgin Win8.1 install with similar specs to bigmuthatrukka's...

Not grumbling or rage quitting - just saying that a simple HTTP get would allow me to initiate the download, wait as long as needed, then play...
