Given it's a p2p play model, I'd assume it was a p2p disto model as well. Maybe someone a few corrupted files, and it just spread from there. (wild speculation, I know nothing of p2p networking)

either way, beta would be more interesting to me if I was to keep my progress

That's cool and all ... but is there a reason why every single player isn't given beta access? I mean the more feedback from as many players as possible the better, right.

Everybody bought the game but only those that pay a little extra get to be the beta testers - in essence the players are paying the developers more money for the privilege of testing the game. A testing process that mutually benefits both parties. My wording sounds cynical but I don't know how else to phrase it.

Kinda but if people will pay for it then why not :p

My personal thoughts were that too many flood the servers and flood the bug-forum with repeat-bugs so it's harder for Devs to manage them into a priority list and keep track... Although that appears not to be the case with the recent change of them selling beta access again.

Saved game and beta:
Beta servers are entirely separated from the live servers. The save data is generated from a snapshot of the live servers in the weeks leading up to the beta. It may appear that your beta character has lost progress or has moved system if you played the game between the snapshot being taken and the beta being launched.
Any progress made in beta is lost at the end of the beta test period and no part of beta affects your main save.

Remember Dalton in LHS 3447 has everything available (ships/mods). Lowest prices as well.
I also noticed that I have to go to Phiagre and collect 65M. I think that applies to all, not sure. I did do that CG however.
The Sirius permit also shows up for you in Beta Engineers.
