Horizons Upgrade to Horizons. Does it require a download?

I am considering buying the Horizons expansion.
Does anybody know, is it an separate download. Or is it just sitting there in my ED game and gets unlocked.
I want to know because it will probably take around 15 hours to download.

Which version of 1.6 are you currently using - 32-bit or 64-bit?

If it's the 64-bit version then there may be a small, incremental download.

If it's the 32-bit version then you will require to download the full c.8.3GiB 64-bit version (as Horizons is 64-bit only).

If you are on steam it is a full download and also takes up the full space as well the base game.
