Newcomer / Intro Upgrades next?

So, first of all hi fellow spacers.

Now, i have been flying around trying varius things now, hauling, bounties, and mining. And bounties sure is fun..

But now i wounder what i should upgrade to regarding wepons, systems and such. Is it worth it with starting ship? or should i save for new ship, and then, what kind of ship is best suited for bounty hunting..

Cheers!! Fly safe! And for last time, dont land without landing gear

Hi Proden,

It really depends on what you want to do. You can trick out your Sidewinder to beef it up for all the basic roles just fine.

If you want to run cargo, save up and upgrade to a hauler.

If you find fighting is more your style, go for the entry-level combat specialized Eagle. It's a great little fighter. (I'm still zooming around in my tricked out Eagle even though I could move up because it's just fun to fly.)

For exploring or mining, the Adder is a good choice.

I'd experiment in upgrading your Sidey to see what you like to do. The cool thing is when you swap out equipment you get the money back for trade ins.

Good luck!

What gear should i use to hunt wanted ships. Cant seem to pull em from the warp and going to all Unknown signals, mostly no wanted there, is kinda time demanding. Is there a better way? or only in the signals you find?

Hi Proden, happy to have you on the forums. This is a great community where new players are always welcomed.

Regarding upgrading, it's your decision to make. The next combat orientated ship from the Sidewinder is the Eagle. Both of these ships are considered "super-maneuver ships" with a low mass and quick, responsive handling. However, if you didn't get it for free from a pre-order bonus, the Eagle does cost in the region of 45k. A sidewinder upgraded for 45k could be quite utilitarian.

Edit - regarding the gear for wanted ships, a Kill Warrant Scanner and an FSD (Frame Shift Drive) Interdictor are key. If that's the route you really want to go, I would recommend saving for an Eagle. You should also put away money for the upgrades and the associated insurance costs in case you met your fiery end (estimate about 10% of the overall value for insurance - it says the rebuy cost in the right UI).

Also, Nav Beacons you'll find wanted ships. Warp in there and start scanning. Pick small, unshielded targets first (target Eagles, Haulers, and Sidewinders but stay away from Cobras, Asps, and Vipers)

Get yourself a Interdiction module and a wanted scanner.

with the interdiction scanner you can intercept ship while flying and get them out of supercruise , scan them with the wanted scanner to get the maximum bounty.

the best place to get good bounty is at the Nav Beacons. get there and you will get a lots of actions, be careful not to shoot the cops ;)

If bounty hunting is your game, head to a Nav Beacon (they are usually near the local star.) It's a gathering point for traffic. Also, look for "Extraction" sites around planets and asteroid fields. There you will find a bunch of miners trying to make a living... But wherever you have miners extracting valuable metals, you'll find people there trying to take it from them. I spend a lot of time hanging around extraction sites taking out ships causing trouble. The bounties are decent and I feel like I'm providing a public service. ;)

At either a nav beacon or mining site, point your nose at a ship and after a few seconds you'll see their name, their pilot ranking and clean/wanted status. If they're wanted, light 'em up if you think you can take them.

When you want to get more serious, purchase a "Kill Warrant Scanner." Doing a basic scan on a ship tells you if they are wanted locally. However, if you hit them with a KWS, it will look at all of the law enforcement databases and show you if they have a bounty registered anywhere, at which point you can light them up. Do be aware that if the ship is friendly to a faction, that faction might not appreciate you shooting up their ship. Also, if the faction where they are wanted is far away, you'll have to fly out there to collect the bounty.

Finally you can grab the "Frameshift Drive Interdictor." This is the device that lets you stop a ship in supercruise. You'll want to scan them and find out their wanted status of course and then hit them with the FSD interdictor. After that, you drop to normal space and duke it out like normal.

Happy hunting! :)

ok. well, had no luck finding any nav beacons yet though, and scanning? do i use the D scanner to find em or other scanner, since this scanning is somewhat confusing how to use what and where...

Love the game, been at it since release... not even go out for a smoke :D

Also, if i use the wanted scanner, do i get more from them? or still same paycheck :p

Nav beacons you can find close to stars in populated systems, but there is no nav beacons in anarchy systems
the D scanner you use to investigate if there is any unexplored planets (or other stellar objects) in the system you can explore. (to fully explore them target them and point your ship to them until their name shows up, you can also explore them further if you have a detailed surface scanner for extra exploration data you can sell)

the K warrant scanner is what you want to get for scanning bounties, and yes its scan reveals all bounties the target might have collected. so for example if the target is wanted in both empire and federation space you can collect both bounties,
you need to assign the scanner to a fire group (primary or secondary fire button) and keep the target in rage until the scan finish (basic K scan got a range of 2km)

The Sidewinder is good, but you struggle to haul in it. IMHO the best bet is to switch to an Adder as soon as you can, since that retains the combat ability, but has more hold space (which is also upgradable). Even combat ready you can have 16t capacity, worth upgrading that as well.
