You'd think that outfitting would be better in some of the wealthier stations, but in my experience, 90% of the stations in the game have trash-level outfitting, forcing you to search for the parts you need and constantly bookmark those locations.
Ahhh yes.... The days before bookmarks and reliable sites like EDDB....
They were good days....

It's the way things are only partially done that bothers me; I don't mind that some stations sell things and others don't - but if you're going to sell a refinery, it makes sense to sell the laser as well. Otherwise it's like walking into a gun shop to buy a gun, only to find that they don't sell ammo.Outfitting in this game is pretty random and has never made a bit of sense to me. For example, there are stations that sell a couple of Class 8 parts, but then nothing else above class 4. The most bewildering to me is probably Chelomey Orbital in Cubeo. The place literally services Capital Ships but doesn't sell anything above class 3. The fact that I have to use EDDB just to customize a ship is ridiculous too.

Urgh.. *cold chill runs down spine*Ahhh yes.... The days before bookmarks and reliable sites like EDDB....

It can certainly be off-putting; if it weren't for EDDB, I'd likely not have bothered looking for the laser and just done something else. That's why I don't like mining missions much. Unless I'm flying a dedicated mining ship I certainly won't take one of those missions because I feel like it. The time it takes to fly around systems to gather the equipment together always makes me wonder which productive activities I could do in that time instead.
Actually, I just put on some relaxing music, chose a planet and popped down into it's ring at a random location. I then spent a good hour just dancing around the asteroids and mining. Was a nice change of pace from.. well, everything. Can anyone spell "G-R-I-N-D"?
I'm in a Sidey.. wouldn't make a lick of difference.Make sure your Refinery is armoured, just in case.![]()
Guy's, unless something has changed, the BGS simulates stations running out of stock or taking temporary delivery on certain stock. There is a lot of hidden stuff going on under the hood in this game, personally I prefer it that way.
If I need to find a certain module with a 100% success rate i'll head to Shinrata or Isola prospect or check an up to date DB, even Diaguandri slightly changes stock.
Here's a very rough guide from a little while back
Stations change their stock of modules every 6/7 days. The availability of modules at a station remains constant within each 6/7 day period.
Different stations change their stock on different days.
There's wide variance in the availability of modules - many modules are available 100% of the time, but some are available as infrequently as 1.8% of the time.
As you might expect, A & B rated modules tend to have lower availability than C, D & E. But this isn't a firm rule - e.g. 5E Thrusters have lower availability than any other kind of Thrusters at Leesti/George Lucas.

the problem is that there are no means of finding equipment in-game, other than by semi-blindly flying around with fingers crossed or using third party sites, alternatively using pen & paper.Guy's, unless something has changed, the BGS simulates stations running out of stock or taking temporary delivery on certain stock. gotchaYep, completely understand. Just letting the Op know that the station may well sell both refinery and mining lasers. When he landed the station was unfortunately out of mining lasers.

I already know that, doesn't make it any less irritating though given that I had to leave the game in order to find where one is sold.
If something is out of stock, the station shouldn't remove it from their equipment list, rather just disable it or put in that Out of Stock message.
Otherwise, the assumption is it's not sold there.
I mean the company I buy my PC parts from doesn't remove an item from their catalogue if they run out of stock of it, they just update their website with "out of stock" written beside it.![]()
