Zoo Tycoon USA X1 Disc is Walmart timed exclusive / also available on XBL or MSstore

USA X1 Disc is Walmart timed exclusive / digital available everywhere

PLEASE NOTE: This apparently ONLY applies to the USA release of the game as non-USA retailers all seem to have the Xbox One version of Zoo Tycoon up for pre-order, IE amazon/gamestop/game/stop-to/etc.

"Zoo Tycoon for Xbox One will be exclusively available at Walmart in the U.S. between November 22, 2013 and January 31, 2014," the company told us. "Customers can also purchase Zoo Tycoon for Xbox One at Microsoft Stores and download the title on Xbox Live."

------------

This pretty much explains why it isn't available anywhere else in the USA.

Wal-Mart.com pre-order link: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Zoo-Tycoon-Xbox-One/24292555
Microsoftstore.com pre order link: N/A

* Although it's NOT yet listed on the Microsoftstore.com web site, as of this post, they are offering $10 store credit on several X1 games so it might be worth it to wait and pre-order it there when it is available, assuming they extend the $10 deal for Zoo Tycoon.

FYI... If you have a discovercard you can sign up for the 5% cashback on Online purchases (through the end of 2013) and use the Shopdiscover links for either Walmart.com or Microsoftstore.com to save another 5%.

Another show of incompetence by Frontier. As if limiting this to consoles was bad enough now they limit it to one store in the US? Lmao.

I would be surprised if a Windows 8 release wasn't made available down the line.

As for the timed exclusivity, it likely has everything to do with the publisher. It may end up being a win-win if it means Wal-Mart is going to be pushing the game more with in store advertising and driving customers to specifically go there. It normally is already done with retailer specific pre-order bonus content for video games. It wouldn't be the first time a game had a timed exclusivity with a specific retailer or platform although it happens more often with home video releases of movies and tv shows.

The digital version will be available @ launch and the leaked Gamestop Black Friday ad specifically lists Zoo Tycoon as a digital download. So it's NOT as if other retailers aren't going to be marketing/selling this game, they'll just be pushing Xbox gift cards and/or redemption codes for the game.

There are over 4,000 Wal-Marts in the USA aside from ordering online to have the disc shipped to your door. There should be no problem in picking up this game on Xbox One and the Xbox 360 version isn't retailer specific although it is limited in features compared to the Xbox One version.

THIS IS SCANDALOUS!

I am Scottish, I live in Scotland and this doesn't hugely affect me.

There are no Walmart here. And yes I can get apparently from more local video gamer provider BUT....

Were is the customer confidence???

How can fans like me have confidence in this product?

Downgraded xbox 36o version.
No game details
Poor showing at Games Con
Did not even make the offical Microsoft press conference at E3 this year
You plan not to sell this game at a retail version except in walmart

WHAT IS GOING ON?

I wonder if frontier was designing this for Sony would things be different

After the Wal-Mart exclusive press release the Wal-Mart web site went from a release of 11/22/13 to just now showing a release of, "Preorder this item today and it should ship on 03/31/2014."

Has Zoo Tycoon been pushed back from Launch? Is this just a messedup/placeholder date?
It's most likely a placeholder date. I'm quite a ways from home posting from my mobile, so I personally cannot confirm or deny what it going on.

The Xbox One "pre-order card" wall at my local Wal-Mart has a large image of the Zoo Tycoon with the "Exclusive to Wal-Mart" text. No pre-order cards available, as of yet so no idea if there is any pre-order bonus but there will likely be the $5 Vudu credit that they offer with all games.

SO you guys going to get from walmart or not at all?

At this point I plan on buying the digital version over Xbox LIVE for the Xbox One.

This is the kind of game I think I would end up keeping so having the disc for the resale value potential doesn't make much sense. Being able to "snap" Zoo Tycoon in/out without swapping discs will also be nice.

I buy my points on sale thanks to coupons and payment method cashback promotions. Plus there is the % back I'll get for being an Xbox LIVE Rewards member. It's a win/win.

another X1 disc delay USA (amazon.com)

At the time of this post...

amazon.com has pushed back the disc release of the Xbox One version to March 4th and lists a manufacturing shipping delay as the reason. The Xbox 360 is available now @ amazon.com

Gamestop.com doesn't have new copies listed for the Xbox One and BestBuy still lists the original Feb 9th launch date. All have the Xbox 360 version available for purchase. microsoftstore.com says the Xbox One version is available for shipping and obviously it's available @ Wal-Mart and digital download on the console.
