Use a tablet for keyboard input

Sorry if this is old news, but I discovered last night that if you run the Xbox app on a smart phone or tablet whilst playing Elite, you can use the iPad to input text into any search boxes. Saves a huuuge amount of time when plotting destinations with ludicrously long names.

(Did this on iPad but assume works on all smart handhelds?)

And it gets better..

If you happen to have a usb keyboard somewhere gathering dust, you can connect it to your XboxOne's usb port, and use it to type text input directly into the comms window without the annoying chatbox popup blocking your whole screen..

(can't say this enough.. :D )

Anyone ever tried plotting a route using the neutron map? A YouTube video had a player (pc) cut and paste from the list on a different tab into the nav seach but I don't think you can do that with the Xbox app

You can definitely cut and paste from a web page into the Xbox App (I did it to input the planet for Dav's Hope yesterday), so it should work, albeit a little slowly.

Can you do the same with a laptop running Windows 10 and the Xbox App?

*breaks out the keyboard.

and people failed to mention how bugged/glitched the app. is. Like having to delete the app. then reinstall it to fix the keyboard not showing bug.

Instead of deleting the app (which is buggy from time to time), on the iPad & iPhone I find it easier to just power down the device then turn it back on. This forces the Xbox app to sign in again and the keyboard resumes working.

I could delete and download it faster than my tablet takes to shutdown, then boot up.
In the end, it's alot easier to just plug in a keyboard/chatpad though. The app. screws up far too often.

Great idea ! Thanks!

easier to just buy the chatpad attachment they go on sale kind of regularly for like $20. I need to use my phone for controlling Spotify while I play :p
