Use One Flight Stick Button for Multiple Functions?

In the process of customizing my flight stick for the game and had a question. Is it possible to map one button to perform multiple functions?

For example, could I have the button mapped to navigate UI panel tabs when the UI panels are active, but then use that same button to control Thurst UP when the UI panel is not active? Or can only one button be mapped to a single function?

I tried this within the binding screen, but it did not appear to work. Either it is not supported or I don't know how to make it happen. If these is supported, I would appreciate any instructions some could give me. Thanks!

It should do....I have it on my T-Flight stick......Just make sure you use a "shift" button for want of better words is not its self bound to a function.
Then go to the menu and hold the "shift" button and the secondary button. I should show a bind xxx+yyy. Digital buttons only btw.
This only works using the shift method.

Thank you for letting me know it is possible and I also have a T-Flight stick too. But I am not sure I completely understand how to do it.

Using the "shift" button method, could you possibly provide an example of how to do? Once complete, do you have to press the shift button at the same time as the mapped button for it to work? Or is the shift button then used as a toggle between the modes?

You can do this purely in-game without needing to use a shift button on your controller. I do exactly the same thing; my thrust left/right/up/down keys navigate the UI as well.

1. Open the Control section and map your keys for normal gameplay, i.e. Thrust Left, Thrust Right etc.
2. Scroll down to the "Interface Mode" section of Controls and map the same keys you used for thrust to UI navigation i.e. UI Panel Left, UI Panel Right etc.

There is also a UI Panel Focus key which acts like a shift modifier that you can use to bring up the UI Interface.

For instance, my PoV Hat does the following:
1. Normal gameplay: Power Distribution (Down = Balanced, Left = to SYS, Up = to ENG, Right = to WEP)
2. With UI Panel Focus key down: Navigate to UI Panels (Left = Panel 1, Down = Panel 2, Right = Panel 3)
3. In the UI itself: Navigate UI (Left = UI Panel Left, Up = UI Panel UP etc...)

You can exit the UI by pressing the UI Panel Focus key again.

I really like the way they've implemented the controls, it allows you to do a lot with just a few buttons.

Wow...that is exactly the kind of setup I want...but every time I try to assign the same button to a function, it takes it away from the other function that was already assigned to it. Can't figure out a way to keep both assigned.

I must be missing something on my end.....just curious, are you able to share the binding file you used?

Yes, some things do remap keys. There are other sections of the Control options that won't, however.

i.e.
Flight Landing Overrides (these are active when you have Landing Gear down)
Interface Mode (active when you are in the UI, or the UI Panel Focus key is pressed)
Headlook Mode (active when the Headlook key is pressed)
Galaxy Map

You can map the same key to each one of those sections and the key will do different things in the different screen / flight modes.

Here are my mappings for the PoV Hat...you can see the JOY POV1 inputs are mapped to two different sections (actually, they are mapped to three as I have them controlling Thrusters in the Flight Landing Overrides as well!)

I would suggest going through each section of the Control mappings to work out what they do. Most of their functions are pretty self-explanatory. I spent time going through each section in turn and playing around until I found what worked for me...

Excellent Ving...I appreciate you being so helpful to a newbie like me:) I'll spend this afternoon trying all this...thanks again!

In addition to the bindings set out above, I recently discovered that you can also bind combinations of buttons by pressing both together when prompted for a key to bind.

For example, I now have:

button 4 + PoV Hat Up = Target Ahead
button 4 + PoV Hat Right = Target Next Hostile
button 4 + PoV Hat Left = Target Next Subsystem
button 4 + PoV Hat Down = Target greatest threat.

Essentially using button 4 as an addition toggle for the PoV hat when held down.

Yes I use the Pov for thrust on a "shift" key. It has so many uses. I use an xbox controller + T-Flight when new commands are introduced I stick them on the controller but gradually migrate them to the stick.
Mike has said he's hoping will be more control available in future builds.
Just recently I moved the exit SC to the shifted fire button to try to exit closer.
