Wow, I read 10m as 10 minutes not 10 months. Either way, it's a good idea.
This has probably been seen, but why not import planet coaster code into the game to allow the making of large scale vehicles. you could use the parts(possibly modiefied versions.) save up and make your ship. Maybe make a schematic and then in a base or somewhere slowly gather parts to build it part by part. You could have truly customized ship designs then. It could both visually and functionally be built in game.
There may not be much of a difference between rollercoaster parts and stuff used structurally for real craft potentially. If not most or all of it is probably transferable.
It could be fun if it took real world time to build and import materials or make materials from mined items. Exploration could have equipment to build for expansion and self sufficiency. This also customizable as it could be removed for space or weight etc. use real world engineering limitations and material knowledge and the real mineable materials and what they can be made into.
