Use Vanilla Elite, NOT Horizons to travel faster!

Ok, so earlier I asked if you could decrease your transit time from when Betty says "engage" to when the ship pops out in front of a star.

Based on advice, I set port forwarding for elite. This did not seem to have an effect positive or negative for me, but I tested four groups and found the following:

Elite Dangerous transit times in solo mode ~15 secs
Elite Dangerous transit times in private group ~15 secs

Elite Horizons transit times in solo mode ~15-22 secs
Elite Horizons transit times in private group ~15-22 secs

In Horizons, I had some jumps that were 15 secs, but the majority were 22 secs. As it turns out, if there are no land-able planets or moons, it only takes 15 secs. All others took 22-23 secs except one outlier which took 44 secs. Each group was tested with at least 10 jumps. Skipping to what I cared about in the first place since I'm trying to minimize my transit time back from the far side of the galaxy, this save you about 4 mins per 1000 ly's traveled. Or, put another way, it shaves a little over 4 hours off the time needed to return from beagle point to the bubble.

Even shorter story...only load Horizons if you need / want to land on planets.[praise]

Your mods don't vanish if you boot up vanilla ED.

I've been doing this, too, for the record, also works if you don't want planets side missions.

Z...

Oh, I haven't tried it! It seems a good news. I will give a try, thank you!

Yeah, this is a useful trick. I inadvertently noticed how huge the difference in load times is when my desktop PC power plant imploded on me earlier this week. I had to install ED on my 3rd gen Core i3 laptop just to complete the last few jumps to Colonia and deliver some Travel Guides.
With Horizons, I gave up on trying after one jump as the average frame rate I got was <1 FPS and the load time was unbearable. In the 32 bit client, I managed to squeeze up to 14 FPS out of the game and get bearable jump times to allow me to complete the last 350 light years of travel.
The massive differences in performance is really worrisome, I think. I hope they manage to clean up the code a lot with the 3.0 season.
