Useless Turret Society!

Ok, so I recently got in to the smuggling gig at Robigo, its been loads of fun, and well paid!
I was just about to set off on probably my last ever Robigo run, cosi was getting quite tired of the 14 or so jumps to the drops, and I have plenty of cash for my Python.
Anyhoo, to help prevent scanning, I stuck a useless G1 Pulse turret on my Asp.
After picking up about 6 shadow delivery missions, I decdied to head out.
First jump, I got a message from Feds saying about smuggling. And then I got interdicted.
And the feds, obviously was feelingvlazy and hit the 'I Win' button before I could even submit.
So, I deploy my turret, target the fed, and press fire, as soon as possible.

Nothing.

It didn't bother shooting.

Got scanned, failed all 6 missions. Lol

Luckily I was only 1 jump away, so back I go!

Anyway, why would FD make it so if I select a target and press fire, it won't fire. I'm guessing I have to face the target to make the turret shoot, but then I may as have fitted a gimballed laser!

Oddly enough, back at Robigo, all the missions I failed are back up on the BB.

Well... The identical thing just happened again. Even the insta-lose interdiction after the first jump.

Only this time I faced the fed, and kept pressing the trigger. But still no shooty.

What the hell is going on?

Just gonna fit a gimballed if turrets just won't fire on anything, ever.

Turrets will only fire if target is hostile, you will have to hit it manually first. Also turret weapons do have to have a fire group otherwise they also wont fire.

All weapons are getting reworked and balanced season 2.

And by that, I assume, "nerf everything!" Lol

Turrets and missiles need work.

Missiles just need a use.
And turrets need to not be .

Pressing fire, with a target selected, no matter what that target is, should set all turrets to fire when they can, on that target(or at will). Not just wait until I'm under fire, then shoot the nearest friendly.

Make sure you have them in a fire group
If using "My Target" the target is targeted
Will need to be triggered

Can even use them to engage multiple targets

Is the turret assigned to a fire group? What mode did you select for it?
It's my only weapon, set to group 1.
First time it was set to target only, 2nd time I set it to fire at will.

This time it's set to forward fire.

3rd time lucky!
But if I get an insta-lose interdiction after 1 jump again, this game has it out for me today. Lol

Looool
Nope. 3rd time. Almost the same situation.
Only this time I managed to drop off 3 missions and failed 3. Plus I had 4 more legal missions.

Same fed, same ship.
Really wierd. Lol interdiction is unwinnable. And, you can't outrun him.
Tried boosting away, and he gained 500m in just a few seconds. By the time I turned around to shoot. Scan was done.
I guess I picked up an extra hard mission somewhere.

Might already have checked this - but make sure you have enough power to power it when deployed. It may be auto-switching off.

By design. They'll only autofire once the target is red on your scanner: the copper isn't shooting at you, so it won't shoot back.

If you want to strike first, you need to fire the turret manually (ie. without a lock on your target so they shoot forward) or hit them first with another weapon.

Turret-only builds are primarily a defence-only option.

-BW.

Simply select "Target only" instead of the "automatic" turret mode. The turrets will then work like gimballed weapons with a much larger angle of fire, and they will continue firing automatically on the target once you shot it once. There is no need to use the "automatic" mode. Using "target only" also allows you use a turret-only ship offensively.

Turrets aren't as bad as you make out my friend. Used correctly and in a defensive posture they will engage and either destroy your target or keep it occupied whilst you quickly select a high wake destination route out of Dodge.

Also selecting position for Turrets is important, no use putting a turret on a front facing mount and expecting it to hit/engage a target on your 6.

Used Correctly they are what they are, not the be all and end all of weapons, but a useful addition to a Trading/smuggling ship if used in conjunction with my points above and other Cmdrs advice!

Little Turret Operational Guide

1) switch turret-mode to "target only"
2) assign turrets to fire group
3) select target - no matter if friend or foe -
4) start shooting: pull trigger (remember: target has to be in the turret's angle of attack!)
5) stop shooting: de-select target or retract hardpoints

A single gimballed weapon would serve better. You just have to shoot him once then scamper.

Until they fix the inequality in the current game mechanics its all you can do.
