User Interface and ship controls suggestion for devs.

Devs,

While I love the game itself I am constantly baffled and horrified at just how badly designed and laid out the UI is.

My biggest gripe is that while I'm out exploring/scanning systems I constantly have to go to the system map just to see information on the very planet I just scanned. Why? Because the INSTANT the scanner ends it scan the UI where the information is shown is replaced by the distance/speed for safe FSD drop-out indicators. The only times you get to see what kind of planet it is is if the planet is massive enough to allow you to scan it beyond the range of when the safe-FSD indicator normally triggers to activate.

That means that planet I just scanned that I'm nor sure if it looked like a metal rich or an earth-like? Sorry, can't see what it is unless you open the planetary system map.

So.. horribly irritating! Especially when that information could and should be displayed elsewhere on the screen.

The holo-map of the planet itself.. located to the left of the sensor/radar dish... why can it not have a simple text populate under it once scanned saying 'Metal-Rich' or 'Icy Body' ,etc, etc?

Better yet, why not make use of.. you know.. the INFO MFD on the TOP right? Heck you could even make it immersive and interactive! When you scan the info MFD starts to type out, line by line, the info the scanner collects on the celestial object!

Have the INFO screen populate the basic non-detailed scanner info first....then populate the more detailed info of the detailed surface scanner (which is relevant to the player piloting it..not the whole list!), separating it from the basic info with a line of asterisks:

System: Prooe Hypue JD-V c5-48
Earth Masses: 1.2
Radius: 1230 km
Surface Temp: 275 K
Orbital Period: 77.3d
**********************************
This planet is a candidate for terraforming
Surface Pressure: 200 atmospheres
Atmosphere: Carbon Dioxide
Composition: 64% rock
26% metal
Landing Possible: Y/N

System Map:

Why doesn't the cursor or view of the system map automatically center on the planet your ship is closest to when you enter it? Its very annoying, especially in VR, to have to scroll all the way to the right every single time you want to look at stuff in the system map..because your ship is usually not on top of the star. Or just default the view to be in the center of the map not on the far left.

Ship Controls/Keybinding:

Please change the way ship controls are bound.... there should be four top-level categories: Primary Controls, Alternate Controls, Landing Controls and Driving Controls.

Under each of them, put ALL THE OPTIONS we see in the current keybinding menu... each type of control should have full customization options.

For example, I do not use a throttle hotas. I use a gaming pad (Logitech G13) and use the throttle lever in my joystick to control throttle. This works fine for me when im not in FSD... given I use the hat switch on the G13 for strafing....but when I'm in FSD I would very much prefer to use the G13 hat switch to control my speed in FSD... in the current setup I cannot because the ALTERNATE CONTROLS have no option to let me set throttle to a different binding.

Finally, for the System/Galaxymap & all in-station menus: Could you please add an option in the config menu to make the interface in these areas 'wrap' around one's view? In VR it is obnoxious to see those menus not be visible to you unless you take a step to the left or right so your eyes end up right in front of it. Its like having your nose touching your computer monitor and trying to read the text on the far left... in an ultrawide screen.

While we're waiting for this to never happen, I'm rather surprised you're not using Captain's Log for this as you're exploring. I get to see the results of everything I want in an overlay window and hitting ALT+C (default, but I think it's customizable) to see the other details on the planet -- especially when it comes to terraformable planets.

I think this is an ode to past versions of the game. I've since gotten used to knowing what I'm looking at with them and believe there's a visual guide for the basics of those out there to be found thanks to Google or your search engine of choice.

I have to agree with this.. The info part of the HUD has to be the most underutilized part of the screen and seriously makes me want to shut it off as I get enough front on to remember it passed 30 seconds.
