Newcomer / Intro Using the map to find commodities

I've been trying to use trade tool in the galaxy map to find where to buy commodities, it shows some lines going from system to system in a certain flow. I guessed that going to a system from where the lines are leaving would have the commodity, but I open the system viewer and can't find any station selling it. Then I looked at the system the lines point too and there's also nothing. Is this a bug?

The system view only gives the major exports as far as I'm aware. You actually need to physically go to each station to see what they are selling. The system view will tell you roughly what each station is selling i.e. it will tell you if it's an agricultural station or high tech. Same with selling.

I found this video helpful in understanding how the Galaxy map worked with regard to trading.

One problem is that the market is still recovering from nasty npc overtrading things so some of the supply and demand stuff is backwards. it should settle over time!!
The other thing you can use are tools like Slopey's BPC (there is a thread about it in the Dangerous discussion forum). It can be really helpful and take the pain out of initial trading, however some people think it's cheating or breaks immersion, each to their own :p

Even when I filter down by goods? I had a mission that asked me to buy Computer Parts (or something like that) so I opened the galaxy map, went to the map view and expanded the Technology group and selected Computer Parts, it showed these lines.

These filters are below the one you said about the type of the stations.
