USS hunting has gotten atrocious with the new update

I need some G5 materials. Pharma Iso's, and some Improvised Components.

One comes from outbreak state HGE's, in high pop systems. So I go around searching out high pop systems, that are in outbreak, I tried both as controlling and present, and was unable to find a single HGE that had any pharma's.

Same story for Improvised, just change out the outbreak, add high-tech.

Before the update, I would be done with my search for both, and have finished my engineering. I know this for a fact because I snagged a few of each to do a little updating on my ships before the update. Had I known that it would be almost impossible to find these now, I'd have maxxed out under the old system.

Am I missing something? How are we getting the correct USS's now? And with Multi-State being a thing now, when I have gotten an HGE, it never has what I want. I guess the new method is just pay double+ for everything because you can't get what you need, so you are relegated to trading for it.

Assuming you have resolved them all in the FSS, there are two choices. Hang around for some USSs to time out & be replaced, or try a different system. You can kill two birds with one stone by trying different systems while you wait for others to time out & be refreshed.

Essentially you now know there are none there atm, whereas before you couldn't be sure. Try doing missions, ymmv.

The old method still works. You can still fly around and randomly find USS. Only difference now is that you can ALSO find fixed ones by using the FSS.

See, I keep hearing both things. That the old method still works, and that it does not and they are all fixed now.

I've used the old system successfully in the past. I have not had this work at all since the update.

I've used the new system, to find what seems to be fewer HGE's, and with the new Multi-state systems, none of them actually had what I wanted, even when making sure that the controlling faction was in the specific state.

HGEs were always a random toss of the Frontier dice.

I've found 3 so far with everything I wanted. Pure luck.

I've been doing a a lot of this. It is a bad situation currently because of the bgs reset. You need outbreak state for pharma isos, and there aren't many still. Even if you do find a system in outbreak, I've understood how FD plans to cater for the three different system states. HGEs are in jusridictions. For example, an HGE near the home station of a system will be the system state 'none' for example, whereas the HGEs near a planet with combat zones will be war state HGEs and give mil supercaps. So you need a system with HGEs in the right jurisdiction. Time will tell how much of a pain this will be.

I came across some the other night. Unhelpfully I can't recall the BGS state. It wasn't in Outbreak though I'm certain of that. Might have been Civil War.

One thing I did notice was that using the FSS it was easy to tell which USS would have the highest grades of mats in it because the time until expiration was lower.

Yeah, the BGS needs some time to settle down into more regular operating patterns before we can get a good picture of how this is playing out for USS generation long term.

There is an abundance of encrypted signal sources, which, at least half of the time, contain grade 4 materials that can be traded up. Material traders may see more traffic with the new system out of simple necessity.

Not for me it doesn't.

If you just fly around in super cruiser like you used to, you'll occasionally get the message 'Discovered New Signal Source.' But if you look around and check your navigation panel.. you'll quickly see.. they don't actually spawn.

Since this last update, I have not been able to get any USS to spawn outside of the ones that are there when you enter the system. For this reason, I am on a hiatus from Elite until this garbage is sorted out. I want to engineer some stuff, but currently gathering materials is all but impossible.

I have tried 'honking' the system and scanning the beacon, nothing works to generate new USS.

Yes, I can also confirm the old method does not work.

Same. The message popping up only indicates that a new fixed one has spawned, which you then have to FSS scan again.

Finding HGE now means scanning the nav beacon, going back to SC, check the contact panel. If HGE are there, full throttle and relog farm it as if your life depends on it as long as it lasts. If none are shown, move on.

Also right now most of the system states haven't materialized again after the big BGS reset button was pressed. So your best bet right now is to go to Fed/Imp systems and farm core dynamics composites and imperial shielding until you're full and then crosstrade.

Drop into the nav beacon. When you then jump into SC all the USS are in the panel. Then just select and point nose or use FSS to resolve them. If no HGE's move on. For me its quicker.

If no HGE's move on. For me its quicker.

Move on to what exactly? I need HGE's.. how exactly do I just 'move on?'

Surely you don't mean plot a course to a new system and fly around all damn day looking for HGE's, because there is no reality where that is 'quicker.'

Is there a quick way to determine if the system has any HGEs? Or some other specific type of USS if I was looking for one?

I found that many systems now contain around 30 USS but quite often after spending several minutes resolving all of them the only result is that I didn't find the type I was looking for. Going to the nav beacon also takes a considerable amount of time, especially if it happens to be on the other side of main star from your entry point.

So while the new system is better than the old in many ways (like USS being persistent through supercruise transitions), I can still get into a situation where I spend many minutes jumping to systems and scanning stuff without any result, just because of bad RNG.

This^

It's an inconvenience, yes, but we have more serious bugs atm, like the constant 20 sec freezes which is kind of game breaking, at least in pvp.

Wow, though it was the overclock on my rig. Not seeing it constantly but at least once an hour, game freezes in VR, then carries on like nothing happened.

Is there an active bug report? Never had any issues before the update.
