what ever happened to SEAMLESS?

you go from your normal INSTANCE to the supercruise INSTANCE to look for random USS INSTANCES ? Is this not a bit too much instancing?

Anyone else agree this needs a bit (=lot) more work?

Generally I am okay with them, but I dislike that they just magically popup while you are in supercruise.

Just go into supercruise stop your engines and wait for a new signal to show up just 500km away, that kind of breaks it for me. I'd rather use my scanners to find the signals and get a discovery bonus if you don't sit in one spot.

I am pretty sure that the current USS system is a work in progress. I expect once FD get back to the grindstone after their well deserved break to hear some news about the fleshing out of many such features.

When I started playing I was noting down the rough location of interesting USSs like an idiot, until I realised that they just spawn around your ship.

Not a fan, not logical, not persistent, time waster. Why do we even find anybody going conventional speed in deep space? And why do WE stumble across pilots who happen to know who we work for and just so happen to have a counter offer for pretty much all of the missions we currently have? SMH.

I think it needs work. Theres a feature from freelancer that I think would have worked well here, if you didn't play the game I'll explain.

As you where flying around in Freelancer you would frequently run across all manner of NPC's. Traders moving stuff, Pirates, security forces patrolling the system etc. What you would also hear was their radio chatter. Police querying people where they were going and what they were carrying. Traders responding. It added a lot of richness to the game and made space feel a little less lonely. You could target and query a bounty hunter squad and depending how they felt towards you they would tell you where their patrol would take them. I'd like to see this feature in ED but the reason Im writing this is I think this particular feature could add so much to USS. Hearing distress calls from salvage sites, panicked calls for help from ships under attack, less panicked calls from pirates trying to lure you in. I think it would add the same richness here and help immerse the player in the universe.

Probably a Signal locater would help to take the frustration out of finding them.
The content is slowly getting more relevant as the game grows, will be interesting to see what the reason for the Funeral ship is etc.
If you are on a mission and need to follow a trail of signals and encounters then it may be better to dump most of the irrelevant ones to keep the focus on the hunt.
But I think the concept is a great way to create a mission/encounter/bounty hunt/PVP location. An environment where it is easy to create the unusual without making it too obvious.
A lot of work to do, especially in the mission contents, but a great start me thinks.

Almost forgot,,,, Salvage Collection when you destroy a ship, and someway of de-illegalising stolen goods that a wrong doer may drop when you kill them.

one of the worst things in ED.

oh hey look we have a big RNG floating in space. ED should be about skill and not about dice rolls.

You forced me to pick Awesome. I enjoy the concept, and the play. Sometimes everything goes fast and easy, sometime I have to search every nook and cranny. I'm good with that. But, something between so so, and Meh would have been nice. But it isn't like you're real concerned with a positive view of U.S.S.'s.

We need persistent NPCs for USS's to make sense. All USS's should be the result of actual ships doing actual things - player or NPC doing something that is observable to local players and causes a drop to normal space: interdictions (piracy, murder or system security check), opposing factions flying to a particular spot to do battle, traders setting up ad-hoc trading posts, pirate building temporary bases that they actually fly to/from etc etc.

"Hunt down a single bloke in the vast emptiness of space? Well sure i'll give it a go but i'm not sure.. oh never mind here he is"

Agreed. It is my number one dislike about the current game it does the lovely lots of other things in the game no justice at all.

The topic of the USS mechanic comes up an awful lot round here either in its own thread or part of other threads with people's gripes. Word from the dev's since ....well ever! None :(

The game is supposed to be about exploration as a major feature well it shouldn't stop at just finding another system with another incomprehensible unremembered name. It should also be about finding things existing in sub light space within these systems.

I'll leave this here but they could take a leaf out of the exploration system in EVE and adapt it for the ED universe. A scalable system of scanning, with appropriate risk and rewards depending on how much effort you put in and the danger level of the systems you do it in.

If you look at the way USSs have been implemented for EVERYTHING then they are obviously a placeholder. Its just a shame that the public weren't informed that buying the game on release you were still taking part in an alpha test.

The public was informed of everything, if you take the time to look. I researched the game, and I found it pretty much like the available material said it would be.

RNG generated non persistent gaming chum, why is there no option in the poll for pathetic? :)

seriously these are the best example of why FD have yet to get close to the living breathing persistent galaxy game they said they were making, I dont think these are a placeholder, these are it, this is what it is until FD say otherwise:(

Using scanners to find them is a good start, have rep.

As i said on a different thread, if i sold a car on ebay and then mentioned on my own forum that i would be sending the parts piece by piece over the course of a year could i then say "you were informed you just didn't look on my forum"?

If a game is released its obviously supposed to be finished, or at least close to finshed. This is an alpha test, Beta would be generous. Having to do research is ridiculous.

I can see you are set on your opinion. Let's part amicably and quietly.
