USS out in the black

Fellow explorers,
Right as I was going into hyper jump a USS popped on my screen, and I was 8KLy from sol. I was frustrated that the countdown already started, as my Asp is well shielded and well armed, and I would have loved to investigate the USS. Have any of you had USSes occur in deep space, and if so have you investigated them? Just curious what may be there.

Yeah, degraded-something USSes where you'll find some wreck wirh scoopable data cache containers (marked as stolen, huh?) can pop up very far away from the bubble sometimes. I've seen several while being ~10.000 LYs from there.

Found a USS about 9.5kly from Sol, right on the threshold of an ELW. Sadly it was a small wreckage. Literally just tiny specs of debris with a small data cache. No piece was big enough to even tell if it was from a ship or not. Would have made an interesting screenshot if it were bigger.

I'm about 8kLy out on my way to the core and have run into quite a few so far. Haven't dared drop down to investigate because I'm too paranoid that's it's just a bunch of pirates lying in wait for a poor, curious soul like myself.

I'm currently on my way to the Formidine Rift area and have been dropping into these USS's along the way and bookmarking them to see if there's a gradual drop off after leaving the bubble. So far after 4824lys from Sol they're still popping up at regular intervals.

I've come across 20 so far and all are data caches with 15 being small ones. There's been no NPC's at any of them once I left the immediate vicinity of the bubble.

I haven't been paying too much attention to the debris at all, but when I have it's been mostly Anaconda parts that I've seen, probably the same copy/paste debris field, although I do remember seeing some white Imperial parts at some of the earlier ones.

Judging by previous posters they seem pretty common. I'm currently about 1.5k ly from Sol, heading a bit of a weird way to SagA*. I'll keep an eye for some and if I find anything interesting I'll post.

There used to be a list maintained but it hasn't been updated in a while ( https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...-found-deep-space-regions-with-signal-sources ). This is a shame, as it might give some clues to places worth investigating further.
This weekend I've been out in the Running Man Nebula looking for worlds with a Barnacle-friendly environment and I encountered a handful, including two in one system (Banks Reach). All had data survey caches and I took the large ones back to the Canonn Institute and sold them on the black market for ~17k each. It is also possible to encounter ships that have run out of fuel slightly closer to the bubble, although I'm not sure what the reward is for helping them out (if any).

I was on the way back from the West and ran into my first USS at about 10 Kly... but it was in a region that was heavily trafficked. The only thing in it of value was a Small Data Cache (and as stated above... t'was illegal :D )

I'd rather the caches were replaced by black boxes actually, and they'd give some messages when scooped about how the ship met its demise. Also, as far as I know these deep space explorer wreckages are the only ones which don't contain materials now, so those would be good too.

I agree with that, more immersive that way.
