I love my Rift. With HOTAS, ED and some free time it's bleddy marvelous.
But.
Just brought a car with a V8 engine. It comes with 6dof headtracking. Native forcefeedback steering wheel. Ultra High resoltion display. And the Sound Engineering is just.... wow. WillyTinglinglyGood.
So, at the moment, as the thread title suggests, V8 > VR.
whilst my car only has 6V's I do still love it, however it is weaker in a number of places compared to ED in VR
1) no way can I get From Earth to Mars in under 5 minutes in my nissan..... My Python does it in less than 1% of a tank of fuel as well.
2) my nissan does not have any where near enough weapon mounts, it is lacking even a class 1 mount for goodness sake.
3) (maybe this is not an issue if you have a V8 but) my V6 power plant just cant power a decent shield generator, and I can forget about decent scanners.
in all serious tho, joking aside, As a fellow petrol head I love my car, but I dunno where abouts you live, but where I am with more "intelligent" motorways popping up, speed cameras everywhere and police hiding in bushes with speed guns, not to mention running costs, risk of accindents etc, a VR headset allows you to experience *some* of what driving a high powered car is like, without any of the down sides and you can driving it like an idiot and after a few beers without any hassle as well.
thankfully for most of us, its not an either/or scenario... its nice to have both
nice!. I very nearly bought a Trevor as well......... it was a tossup between my 350z and a stunning Cerbera 4.5l V8..... a very close run thing, both cars were the same price, all bar 1K and had it not been for mechancal issues with my fiat coupe making me realise what a PITA it is having a car you cant 100% rely on all of the time I have have gone for the blackpool rocket..... (well that and owning a car whose sole mission in its like is to try and kill you however, and I am not that good a driver if i am honest).
So I played it safe and to be honest, for the most part generally not regretted it.
but when I went out for a spin in the one I "could" have had... my god, what a car. it set off car alarms on the side of the road (true story) and when i was following it in my Zed I kept missing my gear changes as i could not hear my own engine above the insane 4.5l AJP V8 (it was essentally based on an F1 car engine iirc)
