Newcomer / Intro Vague mission descriptions.

So I took up a mission to kill 7 pirates in a system that turned out to be devoid of life. Anyway I bumped in to a lone ship who told me to kill the police in the Erevate system, which I did because I was getting bored even though it gave a massive bounty. (I'd like to point out the first time I did this sort of thing I shot the guy and got a bounty on my head because he wasn't a pirate per say.) To be honest I just wanted to kill the pirates but as I was going to fail the mission for not killing any pirates there wasn't much to do. So I killed the police and then thought what the hell do I do now? I flew back to the system where I first met this guy but it's dead and I went back to the station where I first made the contract but nothing. So what am I supposed to be doing? Sometimes the descriptions seem a little vague.

Well yes they are kinda vague and I like that. In an empty system you need a kill warrant scanner as because the system is empty it does not 'belong' to any faction and thus no ship will have a default wanted status.

best to take pirate hunts in aligned systems as the pirates will show to your default scans as wanted if they are indeed wanted in that system

Well I don't like to be mollycoddled either. I like to use my Columbo style detective skills sometimes but I've been flying around and around and around. I think it's the system that relates to the mission as there is a sphere icon in the galaxy map, which I worked out means mission locations. Just nothing here.

I have a K-Warrant and used it. I chose the bounty hunter route. So much money in it! This system is just dead though. There's a few unidentified signals but always turns out to be some clean no bounty loner. I am now in debt and have a bounty on my head. Bad day. :(

Yep I hear ya. I steer clear of the Bounties Hunting for Dead Systems. Remeber, you can always open your Galaxy Map (either through a Hot Key or LEFT panel) at any time and look at where they want you to hunt pirates and decline if it is a dead system.
