Value of data vs quantity of data

Despite being 32% through Pioneer at this time, there is one question about exploration data and it's relationship to rank that I have a question about.

Is your progress in your exploration rank driven from:

A: credits made
B: total number of submitted systems
C: total number of submissions

Those last two might need a bit of explanation. As far as I understand it, if you go into a war zone and take part in a war or civil war, it is not the amount of kills you make, or the value of war zone vouchers you accrue that determines your contribution to the war, but rather the number of times you submit those vouchers. For example if one player spends all day in a war zone and accrues 300m in vouchers and cashes them in one go, they will have far, far less effect than a player earning 300k in vouchers, but doing it one ship at a time and going to cash in just that one ship.

So does it make any difference if you sell exploration data by the page, or one system at a time? EG more submissions rather than total value.

It works just like trading. It's based on credits made.

While this is true for exploration data which you can sell, some other activities also help with your exploration rank progress.
I can now confirm that discovering new materials increases you exploration rank. My 2nd CMDR account progressed to 'Scout' without selling a single CR of exploration data - just by collecting materials. There's also a rumour that distance travelled in your SRV counts, but I could not detect a measurable effect yet.

Now that is interesting, as I am sure I was on 31% when I set out on my current trip (for the CG). I did go run around on the surface on the only landable body in the Eta Carinae system and am now on 32%. However I'm not 100% sure so don't quote me on it.

I can confirm that you get exploration data each time you discover a new material. Not sure about the SRV distance travelled, though.

IIRC, Ziljan + others proved you can gain rank from both SRV driving and prospecting - as well as discovering new materials.

Yes to srv driving.....but it's not much. Iirc I gained around 12% or so pathfinder circumnavigating beagle point 2.
Very rough ballpark 1% per 650km.
There is a thread here somewhere where Ziljan did a heap of thorough testing.

<3 Eta Carinae, still my favorite system
