Variable Ship OS

I keep feeling like having the game set in 3301 we should have some variation in the ship Operating Systems. For example, wouldn't it be natural to expect that the pilot interface of Lakon vessels and Faulcon-Delancy be a little different? Certainly the gameplay advantage of identical OS for each ship is clear, but different stylings would add colour to the game, and people might have an ever-so-slight reason to consider some sort of manufacturer loyalty.

Furthermore, I feel that it would be worth considering having specialized Operating Systems that can be purchased at the ship Outfitting shop which allow a bit of tailoring to the primary functions I'd like to pursue. For example, a trading OS might have the capacity to "favourite" a few trade routes in the navigation screen, while a survey/exploration OS might give me the capacity to plot a survey course through the solar system for detailed scanning. A combat OS perhaps would make systems targeting quicker to access (open the left-hand console directly to target page, for example)?

Really, the possibilities are quite numerous, and I think they would add a lot to the feel of the game. Right now, the OS is the same for everyone, and while it works well it is set up for a generalized pilot. Specialization (at a cost of credits) really should be expected by the year 3301!! :)

It's a great idea in my book!

...Certainly the gameplay advantage of identical OS for each ship is clear...

That is indeed a valid criticism, but I agree that a varied approach would offer more advantages than disadvantages. +1 CMDR!

I get your point, but there is somthing to be said for not having a learing curve for every class/maker of a ship in the game. I know the flight controls for my siddy are the same when i get to a conder. Sure she will have a bigger butt and be slower but eveyrthing else is the same
