Velocity Vector?

Could you consider adding a VV (velocity vector) in the HUD, like those used in combat aircraft and modern airliners? It would help align with the target system while supercruising and also help align with the landing pad in the landing maneuver. It wouldn´t cause clutter and would be helpful. of course unless there is something similar that I din´t discover yet :D S! ...Cdr Kuiper out...

Apparently the space dust starfield effect shows velocity, but I would prefer something similar to what is in FE2. That would be much more precise and much more obvious, especially at low speeds.

A VV would make your flight easier, put it on the spot where you want to land, and there you go. Put it over the station when it is just a bright dot, and no more corrections. It would also indicate vertical and lateral acceleration, and help you sense your lateral and vertical inertia (along with the space dust, but more precise in those axes). A VV does not indicate where the nose of the ship points but where it is actually going, and if it is out of range, it just starts flashing to make you aware that it is not a valid indication (ie. flying backwards while f. assits off).
Every modern combat a/c has it, so it could only help in ED.
My two cents... :)

Yeah. This needs to happen. It was in some of the previous elite games, why not this one?

It would be very useful and much more precise than the space dust.

I doubt this will happen, somehow, but it's a good idea. To my mind, the Elite games are all about us exploring the universe, often in competition and conflict with each other as we go. The spirit of the game is, I think, us versus it and them, not us versus some UI faults that were left in to increase the difficulty, as often seems to be the case in ED. Let the game be difficult. Let the UI be sensible. That's what I'd like.

I hope it never happens. To much clutter for laptop users. Right now it clean easy too see who your fighting.

So why not have it Optional with the default off, this way everyone who fears the clutter won't even notice unless they read the changelog / visit the forums.
Also, a declutter button could be implemented. Personally I would love to have a ton more information; My speed in units on the hud, relative speed to target (perhaps near the holo of their ship).
I really don't understand why people get off on saying "i hope they never do it".

Because it will give desktop users a unfair advantage and we would hear remarks like if you don't like it. Buy a desktop. Or Laptop should not be use for gaming and such. The fact is. Not everyone has the space or the funds to run a desktop.

At least funds is an invalid argument. Gaming desktops still cost roughly half of what a laptop with similar performance costs.
