Newcomer / Intro verification code not working

i just got this game on steam and created my account but when i tried to log in it asked for a verification code when i put this code in it just said no i put the code in a dozen times at this point in many variations is there any way to solve this?

Though the article makes it sound like you should even be asked for verification codes as it is a new copy
