Vessel Obsolescence

Two questions
1. Is anyone doing a comparison or data collection on whether or not the 3310/3311 vessels are going to overpower the older vessels? It might be nice to have something like this and, if you see any tuubes or anything else, please post them in the thread
2. Worth writing straight to the developers for new features (modules, new engineers, etc) that would rebalance the elder vessels against the newer vessels or is it just going to be a technological advancement thing?

I don't think it's worth worrying about the difference between pre-SCO ships and SCO ships too much.

They're better.
Of course they're better.
FDev sell them for money (to start with, at least) and people wouldn't buy them if they weren't better than what they already have in some way or other.

It's not a big deal really, though.
I mean, objectively there's a "best" ship for every task but that doesn't stop people flying a multitude of other ships instead.
Same thing applies to SCO ships.
I have a T10, Kraits and AspX's as mining ships, for example.
One of the new ships might be a better choice for mining but it's not so much better that it's worth the faff of building/engineering a new ship just so I can mine a bit faster.

In fact, I already swapped my mat-gathering AspX for a Mandalay (which is better at the job in every quantifiable way) but then I decided to go back to using my AspX for that task simply cos' I enjoy flying the AspX.

As long as the ship you're flying can get the job done, keep using it if you're happy with it.

Having said all that, I can't see FDev continuing to release new ships year after year.
Once they decide to stop, and won't make any more money from selling SCO ships for cash, I can see them announcing that Lakon, DeLacey and the rest are going to retrofit all their existing vessels with SCO capability.

The Type 8 has superseded my Python as a medium pad load lugger (greater cargo capacity @ 400t & vastly improved SCO performance).
The Mandalay has superseded both my Anaconda & Asp-X as a bubble taxi and general get there quick ship (marginally greater jump range, medium landing pad, useable cargo capacity & improved SCO performance).
That's progress baby!

Viper MK IV remains my go to exploration/exobiology ship (supported by FC, running 500ly discovery legs).
Imperial Cutter remains my large cargo lugger (784t cargo capacity with QOL flight assist modules fitted).
Imperial Cutter remains my PVE Death Star for bounty/bond collection.
Imperial Cutter remains my independent mining monster.
Just realised how much I under appreciate my Cutter!

I still have a very specialised build Anaconda and Krait Phantom parked out @ Robigo.
Both loaded with passenger cabins they can make the Robigo to Sothis run (59.03ly) in a single jump - not sure the new ships/SCO drives could do that.
Ah the good old days, now that's legacy!

Sorry what was the question again?

The newer ships were all developed with their own balancing factors at work, so as to not be the one ship to rule them all and completely override all of the older ships. Someone at FDev was very careful about this.

The only new ship that drastically overperforms is the Cobra Mk V, but that’s still just overperforming as a small ship with all the inherent limitations of being small.

The Python Mk II is limited by power plant and distributor size. The Type-8’s thrusters get overwhelmed by heavy cargo loads and the ship is terribly ENG pip dependent. The Mandalay has bad hardpoints. Our new friend the Corsair handles like a Lincoln Town Car (barring getting good at thruster-assisted turns) and tends to get toasty with high heat weapons.

To paraphrase Montgomery Scott, every ship has its own charm. You just have to know where to look for it.

There are no dangerous ships that can be overpowered; there are only dangerous Commanders.

Edit: the above was blatantly stolen and modified by me from a famous quote by Fleet Sergeant Charles Zim.

Keep saying that every time a Bonanza or Lear 35 goes boom.

Ask the Luftwaffe about their F-104 experience...
